I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't trust products with hundreds of 5 star reviews because I'm so sure they're paid fake reviews by robots, right? Am I insane? I guess I'm asking that you trust me when I say I'm a human. I've been counter composting for about a year. I live in a dry climate in the US. I've been using an old metal mixing bowl with no lid. I'm very accustomed the normal levels of kitchen mold, the slight smell, and fruit flies that circle an open compost bowl. I upgraded to this grey metal bucket after I spent HOURS reading reviews. Again, I just don't trust those short sweet reviews but I do trust photos. The bucket I almost bought was bigger but there were so many horrifying photos of rust that I chickened out and got this one instead.This compost bin has been amazing. It's cute, durable enough, and has the inner bowl which was a MUST. I can just carry it out to my bin outside, dump it, rinse it clean, and start over again. I haven't noticed a smell AT ALL and I haven't seen any flies or mold yet. Though, mold is normal so I'm not worried about that.YES it is a little on the small side (Family of 2, making 2-3 meals each week, and coffee everyday, we fill this once a week) I DO have to dump it more often than my frightening bowl of spilling scraps from before but I actually prefer it. It's enjoyable to carry outside, and I like keeping it looking nice so I'm more likely to take care of it.I'll try and remember to post in 6 months to show how it holds up. We've only been using it for about 2 weeks and we love it. I'm so glad I bought this one. The lid is not too hard to remove, it just nests inside the grey bowl and on top of the white one (though you can press it tight if you prefer)

The selected color matches my kitchen decor pretty well so it looks nice sitting on the counter rather than hidden away in a cupboard. So far, no odors at all. The inner plastic bucket is very convenient for lifting out and disposing of compost in a larger bin or pile. My only complaint is that you should be advised that it is actually quite small. Didn't remove a STAR for this as the volume is clearly specified in the product. Maybe we generate more compostable material than some, but I would have liked a larger volume. Before searching for Kitchen Compost Containers, I was going to use a 5 gallon bucket, but placement was an issue along with odor. I looked at some of the larger (1.3 gallon) items, but this one had, overall, the feature set I wanted. It would be great if they came out with a similar item in a 2 gallon size.

It's cute, it's the right size and it does the trick. We did find some mold growing on the charcoal filter just 2 months into using it and we do use liners and take it out more than once a week. Overall this product is easy to clean so it hasn't been a big deal.

It is just perfect. Looks great, holds a good amount. I don't have gnats flying around like I did when I was using plastic bags to hold compost. It's stylish and a great supplement for my kitchen.

The whole thing is great. Small enough to fit on the counter top, easy to clean an d a breeze to empty. For us, a household of two, it gets emptied every 2/3 days. There is never a "smell" to it and there are no little fruit flies swarming around. Great product!!

i bought this in order to compost most of my kitchen scraps. it is very cute but... but... the handle for the inner bucket does not stay in place (basically it pops out) so i take the whole thing to the composter in my back yard, empty it and when i bring it back inside, i pull the white plastic out of the gray metal bucket with pliers in order to wash it and keep it clean. i'm making a difference by composting a lot of scraps and my kitchen garbage isn't stinky...but i would definitely not buy this again.

This compost bin has eliminated the odor of my indoor compost collection. My old bin would stink after a day. This one is awesome! I can now dump it every 4-5 days. So convenient and I love the way it looks.

Perfect size for our family of four. Fits perfectly on the counter. It never smells with the lid on. (Of course when we take of the lid and it does smell, we take it out immediately to the compost bin.)We use the small compost bags from Costco as liners. They are just a little bigger than needed, but that works out because I can add stuff right before empty it.
