The book that has everything for the beginning, during and after your degree!
I am hoping to start a degree in October and I am surprised at how useful this book is! It even has pages on whether you may be intelligent enough to go to university, what to expect from higher education and if you're ready to do it. It is encouraging; pointing out any thoughts you may be having which is underestimating yourself and your ability to do a degree. It helps you structure essays and writing, how to reference, improving your memory, revision techniques, note taking, exam advice and a load more you didn't even think you might need. It is worth getting, especially as it costs 1p!

Worth reading
If you're a student who already has a pretty good awareness of how you learn best, and effective methods of revising worked out, then this book isn't going to be that ground-breaking for you. If you aren't, it could very well revolutionise how you study! It gives you a sense of confidence in your own abilities, and it would be worth reading just for that, as attitude and confidence play such a huge part in how successful you are in your work.Parts of it I really liked, and i've no doubt that i'll be going back to it a few times over the course of my degree. The section about reflective study journals was something new, and sounds like it could be a useful idea. The section on planning and writing essays will also, I think, come in handy in the future.I'd definitely recommend this to anyone about to start a degree course, who is maybe a bit unsure about the whole thing and wants a book that will clarify the situation and give confidence, as well as genuinely useful advice.

Number 1 University 'Bible'
Quick delivery, blah, blah. Now for the review of the book itself.I am so glad that I found this book before I start my studies at uni next year. I've been overall impressed with the Palgrave Study Skills family, but this one is my favourite so far. It has everything that you need to know before and during your time at uni - even for the mature student, like myself. It's actually soothed some of my anxieties about what to do with myself when I start as, like I've mentioned, it has EVERYTHING you can think of. Very well put together and will definitely help you out throughout the years!I can't say it enough, if you're going to uni soon BUY THIS BOOK!

Some good info ...
This book is very big on "self-evaluation", and contains numerous exercises to help you to identify your skills, and to work out what kind of a learner you are, to work out what you hope to get from university etc. It's very attractively set out, with plenty of cartoons, text boxes and diagrams - all of which make it easier to read. Its approach is quite theoretical in parts e.g. the explanation of the "nine different views of intelligence", and the discussion of "the triune brain". But there is also good practical advice, especially in the sections on research and writing for university.

Students lifeline.
This book is going to be well used! It is clearlly set out in esy to find sections for a vast amount of areas that any student might need a bit of help with. The guide is set out in a way that allows you to benefit from completing it page by page or dipping into sections as and when you need them.I wanted help with essay writing and this provided many tips on planning, annalysing, research and structure amongst other things that I know I will refer to time and again. There are even sections on how best to plan your time (which I suck at!) and working with other people plus critical analytical thing, revision and exams. There are loads I havent mentioned but this guide trully is a necessity!

The Study Skills Handbook
I've just started a nursing course at Uni. Although I did Study Skills last year on an Access course, I though I'd get this book as backup for my new course. I've only been on the course 3 weeks so haven't had much opportunity to use this book. However, the bit's I've read and used have been pretty informative. The only reason I've given it 4 stars, is because I've not had chance to find anything really wrong with it. On what I have seen, I'd still recommend this book for anyone starting studying who has not studied for some time.

Wish I'd found it sooner!
Highly recommend this book for anyone who has struggled studying in the past and is about to progress/re-start college/uni. I would even buy this for those who are not currently at education as the skills in here will help you plan almost anything.
