Thanks Santa!
Our 8-year-old son got this as a Christmas gift, he is an avid reader and this is by far his favorite gift. He uses it daily in the car and to read before bed. He is able to use Amazon kids without assistance to download new books, and I have been able to put rented library books on as well. Easy to use and functional. Brightness is good. Battery life superb, hasn’t died yet with only a few charges and he reads for hours. We like the color (sea creatures) and size. There are some slow/lags as I have also experienced with kindle in the past but overall 5 stars.

Great for my little book worm
Got this for my 9 year old’s birthday. I love that there is no access to the internet so I am okay with her using it before bed in her room. She is easily able to navigate and use this. She has brought it on international travel and it was durable and stayed charged for the trip despite only charging it all the way before the trip. Plus she thinks the whale case is so cute and whimsical.Love this kindle and so glad to have it for my daughter, she uses it constantly and has read so many books on it.

Great for 12 year olds!
Perfect for my 12 year old. I have control unlike the regular ones so I feel safer about what she can read. Covers of books are often deceiving to kiddos so this lets me read and block ahead of time and also put a timer and a bedtime as well.

Cute and small
I’ve been wanting to buy a kindle for a hot minute but always put it in the back burner. After a lot of research I decided on this one and I couldn’t be happier. I don’t have it connected to a kids account it’s connected to my regular account an I read whatever I want. It’s super cute and small and fits in my purse. The battery can easily last all week with me reading. It’s very user friendly and I have no problems reading in the dark or sunlight. The download speed is impressive only taking minutes if that before your book is ready to read.

Kindle is nice, but kids profile is annoying
This is a standard kindle with a cover. It got my 8-year-old into reading chapter books and he has already ripped through 3 Harry Potters and 4 Minecraft books since Christmas. He reads at night and the backlight works well for that.My biggest complaint is how locked down the kids profile is. First off, I cannot turn it off because apparently there is a PIN that neither my wife nor I set and it doesn't match our Prime Video PIN. I can deregister and re-register it, but that is a pain. Secondly, I cannot send epub file to his kindle like I can to any normal Kindle. I can only share books that I've purchased through Amazon. Nice way to lock them down and pretend it is a feature. I did sign up for a few library cards because I can still share Libby purchases with him, but most of the books he wants have a long wait.If you want to be able to share your own books with your kids, or get them from sources other than Amazon or Libby, don't spend the extra money on the kids Kindle because it is a pain to turn off the Kids profile so they can access those books.

We love our kindles!
We bought this for our 9 year old son for Christmas. He liked reading before but we can’t get him to put his kindle down now! The paper white holds a charge for weeks, we love the adjustable brightness, the case has been durable, and it’s a good size for kid hands. We’ve struggled a bit getting books onto the kids view so we’ve had to remove the kids view but it’s worked fine for us so far to allow him to access all books on our account (he thankfully has no interest in what I read lol). This may be user error but the ease of use could be more user friendly.

VERY DIFFICULT TO USE
this was a gift to my child. there are many things terrible with this product. I will list them here:1) the search is not a search. I searched for The Hobbit, hit the return button and got results for Spider Man, Harry Potter, etc. No where was I given options for the Hobbit other than in what appeared to be the suggested searches. Low and be hold apparently, that was the search. No place did it list out the options where I could clearly see prices and edition options.2) So I bought the Hobbit for like the 4th time in my life, yes its a favorite I have lots of different editions, and I said I wanted to assign it to my child's kindle. I synced the devices AND IT NEVER SHOWED UP. so I had to blindly click around in the Kindle book area of my desktop website for Amazon to find it and then there is another thing to click to send it to their device. This should not be a two step process.3) now the home tab of thee kids kindle isn't home. on an e-reader I expect to see my library of books I can read. no, it is a shopping center. to get to your library of books, you need to go into recent.4) there is no way to sync up my child's device with her library card through Libby, even though this is supposed to be an option via my library and the Libby programing.I am very sorry Amazon, get yourself together, clearly label things, make things user interface friendly this is a terrible product. I will not be buying a kindle for myself EVER.

Got to sleep already!
In an age of screens, this is the one I want my kid to hide under the covers and view each night. Reading with comprehension is the #1 predictor of academic and job success according to studies. This version of the Kindle is just right for our newest reader in the family. Amazon Kids+ is free for six months when you buy it (and he's already hooked enough to want a subscription). It also can be used with our local library to download books directly to it from our Amazon account. The nice thing is that Amazon also removes all of the ads from this kids version so there isn't any coercion to buy more stuff. Our new reader uses this nightly and not only does it help him develop skills for life, and entertain him, it also helps him fall asleep faster most nights. But, hey, if he stays up later reading, that's a price I'm happy to pay. You won't hear me say, "Go to sleep already!"
