Good quality, good colors
I was surprised at the good quality of these water soluble oil pastels for the price point!I've used Mungyo, Hashi, Art Philosophy, and Crayola Portfolio. All of those are good but of limited colors. The Mont Marte has 48 colors and they are distinct. They blend very well with water and have good color on the paper. Some brands have colors that disappear when water is applied. They do not come in a tin but in a cardboard box. A tin would be nice but is not a deal breaker for me. Cardboard probably holds down the price and is recyclable!!I'd recommend these for art journaling, layering for under paintings, and general use.

Lots of colors
Like the variety of colors in this set. Not as soft as Mungyo but still as blendable with water. Good value for the money. Will make a nice base for a finished work.

No “tin box”
I just received these pastels so I don’t know how they will be, BUT fyi, they do NOT come in a tin box as stated. They are not in any kind of useable storage box, just in a flimsy tray. I was going to give them as a gift but now they’re mine.

Mint Marte Water Soluble Oil Pastels
Mont Marte is an Australian company but these pastels are made in China. Their line includes oil pastels, soft oil pastels and water soluble pastels, so all the reviews are lumped together. This review is for the water soluble oil pastels.I found its better to use a stiff brush to activate with water if you scribbledirectly on paper. Smooth toothed paper is better than textured paper for the scribble marks to disappear. The colors dry matte, they are translucent and vibrant enough that you can really add lots of water toget different shades of color.UPDATE:I’m giving 5 stars!I’ve compared these water soluble pastels to Mungyo ones which have gotten very good reviews on YouTube and I think the Mont Marte are better. They are more vibrant, the color selection is better and so is the price.I bought a refrigerator liner for 99 cents, cut it in half and now I have two rough textured paint palettes to scribble the pastels onto and wow are they even more vibrant.Caran D’Ache makes a small pallette but I find something much larger is better. I’ve even used a clear plastic kitchen cutting board. That may not be Neocolor II’s but in the budget category, they rock.

NO TIN STORAGE BOX!
Not as stated, there is NO TIN STORAGE BOX. They come in paper box with flimsy plastic tray. Wouldn't have choose this set if I'd have know. You'll need a stiff brush to blend but they are water soluble. They are not packaged in any protection, shipped in paper box they come in with the shipping label on box. Would not buy again. Hate Prime sellers that lie!

Not soft, don't dissolve easily in water, no storage box
I was shocked to see that this set has NO BOX TOP (definitely no tin storage box) so no way to store these in their own container. I've never purchased an art product so cheaply presented; the flimsy box tore apart when I opened it. Unlike non-water-soluble oil pastels these are hard, don't blend easily, and don't dissolve well in water, either. I consider this a very bad purchase and doubt I'll be trying to use these. Disappointed.

Useful and well-priced.
I've become very interested in water soluble mark-makers, of which there are still only a handful of companies producing. In a sense, both the producers and users are experimenting wth the wider range of uses and possibly better control soluble oil pastels can offer. The photo shows a wet blue and yellow combination, which gave a light green result. I'm experimenting with number of reasonably priced oil pastels, including the few that are water soluble responsive. The texture of these is not quite "buttery" but is reasonable responsive, for me producing a good variety of possible marks with relative ease.

A good colour range of oil pastels. They disolve good but not as well as the Neocolor II. Good value for money

Really nice and soft. They blend easily and the colours are lovely

awesome range of colours
these are pretty good but the size is pretty thick so I wish they came sharpened, I will use these from the tip with a water brush.

Skip these
I wish I kept the packaging to return these really awful pastels.300gsm paper and they still couldn't blend properly, with fingers , without , paint brush , and a blending stump all I got were streaks. They are also too chalky which was annoying too. They are equally as awful using them in watercolor. Just skip these pastels by Mont Marte.
