Flavor is fantastic
Had to rinse about 5 times to get the starch and residue out of the peas. Took about 45 mins to start to get creamier consistency. The flavor is incredible. Quality is much better than a store brand, imho.

5 star split peas?
I believe this is the first 5 star rating ive given on any product. Actually im surprised it is a food item at that. Im not easily impressed with anything, Especially when it comes to dried legumes. Ive always bought those at the grocery store. For some reason the store i shop at does not carry split peas in my area ( its a very big super store chain, everyone has been to it guaranteed) anyway i ordered mine from this company. Last night i made split pea soup. I had no idea that dried split peas could taste so good. They actually tasted like peas. I know what your thinking; what else would they taste like? Believe me there is a big difference between thse peas and what you buy from the store I cooked my soup for 90 minutes and the peas were still holding together, not turning into mush like they always do. I actually had to mash them some to get the right consistency for the soup. Ive never been so impressed about a food product. I never thought i would write a review about split peas either Now this is the second time ive ordered from this company. The first time i ordered I thought i was ordering split peas but i accidentally ordered lentils. I didn't want to go through the trouble of returning those plus i will use them eventually especially if they are as good as the split peas. Ive read some reviews about how the items the company sells aren't organic and other stuff and how disappointed the customer was, but in the company's defense they do tell you in the description exactly what you are ordering, so I dismiss those reviews as being bad. I really like the packaging the peas come in. Its a cloth sack with draw strings to close it up. No plastic liner, nothing but cloth. So when its empty i can clean it and find another use for it. Im happy with my purchase and will be reordering from this company again and will continue to do so as long as the quality remains the same. The company sent me an email thanking me for the order and give tips about storing the product since it hasn't been irradiated or whatever. Anyway its good advice.

Fresh Split Peas
These peas were very fresh. The flavor is wonderful and creamy. The quality is excellent. We cook split peas soup on a regular basis and this is the first time we bought this brand. What a difference getting peas straight from the farm instead the local grocery store. No chemical sprayed on them either to dry them. We love the fabric draw string bag they came in too. Even the packaging is quality. They were quick cooking and the color was beautiful. We will be buying these in the future.

Im not a person who over seasons...or dumps salt on my food....IM IMPRESSED.......i added just a small amount of white and black pepper......a shallot...some leeks....sweet onion....small amount of celery...some funky sausage from the mark down section...easter bone in ham....english bacon....i was getting ready to adjust my seasoning....BUT WHY.....i did not add that much seasoning from the start....but that first bite....was crazy amazingly sweet....GREAT FLAVOR....I cooked it in my dutch oven.....i used 4 cups of water to 1 cup of peas...i was expecting a little longer cooking time....i judged it wrong....they cook fast in an enamel lodge dutch oven....my peas disintergrated....and my soupwas a little runny...SO...I SCRATCHED MY MONKEY HEAD....THOUGHT ABOUT IT........the flavor was there....SO....i added more peas....I LOVE MY SPLIT PEA SOUP A LITTLE ON THE THICK SIDE........it came out SO YUMMY....the peas were perfect....I AM IMPRESSED....

I am pleased to find a conscientious producer to purchase from versus ...
I have purchased these twice and will continue to purchase. They arrive very fresh and green and cook up perfectly. I have only used them in one application, and that is to make split pea soup. I am pleased to find a conscientious producer to purchase from versus the sad $.99 bags of stale peas sold at the grocery store. Updated 1/4/17: I have continued to purchase these over the years and they are always excellent. I tried using organic split peas from the grocery store a couple of months ago and my split pea soup just wasn't texturally the same. These Palouse split peas turn into a much silkier, creamier soup! There really isn't any comparison. I typically use Julia Child's recipe from "The Way to Cook," but I've started making my ham stock base in a pressure cooker to save time. I tend to use a low simmer for the peas and go a bit longer than the recipe calls for, then use an immersion blender for a smoother texture. My husband loves it and it freezes well. Pro-tip: shred the smoked hock or shank meat from your stock and reserve it to stir back in or top your bowls for a nice garnish to the green soup. Perfect for freezing weather.
