Did I get a dud roll?????? (update added)
Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I ordered some of this .095 Vortex trimmer line for my new-to-me Makita 18V cordless trimmer. My package arrived today. The string that came with the Makita seems OK, but was anxious to compare it to the Vortex. Might get to try that out tomorrow....if it doesn't storm. I will post back once I've tried it. So until then, let it be known that "I have not tried this line".I looked in my manual and saw that I am supposed to cut 9 feet of line for reloading my trimmer. So with tape measure in hand, I start pulling line. Wow, this packaging is pretty snazzy! UNTIL.........I hit a snag. After looking it over, I figure I can untangle the jam without too much effort. That was before I knew it was tangled over several layers, and likely to the end of the spool. The first 4 feet 3 inches came out perfectly. The rest of the 9 feet was a battle to the death! (ok, ok...I'm exaggerating)I got to 9 feet, grabbed my wire cutters and just as I snipped the line, something caught my eye. Was this a bad spot in the line? But how???? I looked it over quite carefully before realizing there was another just a few inches away, still inside the packaging. Well dang, this ain't good. So took these photos, marked the bad spots in red circles and will let you folks judge for yourself.I will report back on the quality of the line - of that I promise. But this particular role is going back. It's bad enough that the line is so tangled within the package, but how can I know there are no more bad spots like what's pictured?UPDATE: I've had time to use the Vortex line, as well as the supplied Makita line. Vortex is definitely a step up! But with that, things get a little bit tricky. In addition to the Makita 18V cordless trimmer, I also ordered a Ryobi 40V cordless trimmer. I was disappointed with the lack of power of the Makita. That said, Makita says their trimmer is good for using .095 string. Honestly, I doubt it would have made much difference if the Vortex was one size smaller. So now all I can do is compare the Makita string with the Vortex which, as already mentioned, Vortex is a bit better. I think it would work fine in a more powerful trimmer, so don't be afraid to purchase this line.As for the goofed winding inside my package, I have not had to pull out any more line. The Makita trimmer is going back. Sad, because I'm a long-time Makita user and have never cared for Ryobi tools. Guess times are a-changin'. The Ryobi trimmer is a bad-@$$ machine! Don't matter what line you use with that thing, it will do the job. But this review is for Vortex line, so back to the point. So as for Vortex line, I have to wonder if I got a dud roll? I wonder if other people had such entanglements or pinched pieces? With the Ryobi, I also bought some Maxpower trimmer line (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001JQEABO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it works better than the Vortex line. The Ryobi is a much more powerful machine than the Makita, so comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. What I "can" say is, so far, the Maxpower roll is unwinding with perfection and so far no damaged line.

Performed far above my admittedly high hopes -
This product from Rotary is so remarkable, I almost put down my Stihl trimmer midway through the lawn, just to write this review . . .First of all, I experienced every positive attribute that has been said about the Vortex .095 trimmer line by Rotary. I am a Florida homeowner on a corner lot. Much of what I use my trimmer for is actually to edge along the curb, driveway and a short section of sidewalk – hence a great deal of contact with concrete and sandy dirt. 3M Professional face shield is a must!Typically, with the .095 Stihl X-line, I would have to advance the trimmer line about every 20’. I don’t use a traditional edger, because I get far better results turning the trimmer over, standing in the grass and putting a slight, sharp bevel away from the street. A real show-stopper – even though it normally takes a lot of regular plastic line to get results. That was then . . .Today, I couldn't believe that I only advanced the line three times in 300+ feet of concrete contact. In retrospect, I probably could have completed the entire task only advancing the line maybe once, but I wanted to see how well the line advanced. Also, I’m kind of particular about the perfect string length – as I tend to mow rather high.I purchased the 115’ length that came in an amazingly well-designed donut. Normally, I prefer a spool, but Rotary really knows what they are doing – even in their packaging. The line is very easy to load, however, I found that I couldn’t wind as long a line as I normally would - about 8 feet less.Once in the St. Augustine grass, the line was equally impressive. True to everything I read, heard and saw, the line flies without any discernible wobbling and consequently enables a beautifully precise and level cut.One last thing – during every phase of my work with the Vortex line loaded in my Stihl, I was able to operate at half throttle. Less fuel, less noise, happier neighbors!I never thought I’d find trimmer line that was as fantastic and well designed as my choice in power equipment. Perfect pairing – Vortex and Stihl.

Best line there is.
Using this line in a Stihl FS 56RC. The first spool lasted forever. Half throttle amazing results trimming and edging sidewalks and driveway. Best line I have ever had.

Super tough
This is great trimmer string. It breaks way less often than the stuff I used before which was supposed to be ultra durable. The only issue I had is that it's bit stickier than the stuff I've used before so I can't load quite as much onto the spool or it will sometimes bind as the trimmer tries to feed. But that issue was resolved easily by just loading a little bit less string. Even so, because it breaks far less often, I get a lot more run time off of a string load.

It's so accurate that I could sculpt with this!
I bought this because I watched a YT video where a guy was raving about it, so I thought I would give it a try. It is amazing trimmer line! You don't need full throttle to achieve great results. Half throttle does the job. It doesn't wear away anywhere near as fast as any other trimmer line I've used, and it stays 'flat', meaning it's like an invisible disc which cuts exactly where you want it to without digging in and making ugly chop-outs. I have also noticed that I don't get the line breaking off inside the trimmer head like I have with many other brands of trimmer line. I have tried all kinds of line with many different cross-section patterns, but this beats them all. I mow and trim two acres every five days or so, and I always hated the trimming part. This line makes that task much more of an easy job. It beats anything you're likely to find at the big box home improvement stores.
