Nice mattress but quite firm!
Wife and I have had our Arctic Dreams 10" Gel Foam King for about a week now and thought I'd share some of our thoughts with you... Package arrived on time and in good condition. It took a while to get the box upstairs and into the master bedroom as its bulky and quite heavy~ but once in place, we opened and it expanded to about 10" right away with no smell we could detect. We let it sit for about 14 hrs with all the windows open and the ceiling fan on high to make sure it was almost completely expanded. Then we made it up with sheets and preceded to sleep. It seems very well built, too... Now, are coming from a 8 yr old Sealy Posture Pedic Pillow Top that was nearly $3000 when purchased new. We both loved how it slept (soft and comfy) but recently it had developed a sag on my side of the mattress and I felt like I was sleeping in a hammock (even though we would rotate it frequently); Decided it was time to look for a new one... Did so much research our heads were spinning before deciding on the Arctic Dreams 10". We loved it's reviews and especially the price. Liked (the reviews) of how it wasn't the same as a conventional memory foam mattress (quick sand effect) and hardly any negatives... Okay; So it's been a week and here is how we feel about it up to now: This is a very firm mattress and it's taking wife and I some time to get use to its firmness... We are both side sleepers and notice we are both doing a lot of tossing and turning during the night. I reached out to Arctic Dreams via their Gmail but have yet to hear back (3-4 days). I simply asked if there's a break-in period and whether or not this mattress would get any softer with time... I have gone ahead and ordered one of those thick, down mattress toppers to see if that might help with the firmness issue. We haven't given up on this mattress and still feel like we have made a good purchase but it's probably going to take some time for our bodies to adjust to the firmness of this mattress coming from such a soft one in the Sealy... I plan to do a follow-up review in about a month or so...**** Follow-Up**** 03/09/16 Okay: So we've had this king mattress for a about a month or so now and I promised you a follow-up report... We (wife) and I are liking our Arctic Dreams King mattress a lot more than at first... We purchased a fairly thick down-type topper and it's done the trick! Gave us both just a little bit of softness that we felt this mattress was needing (for us)... Still a little bit concerned that I never did get a reply from Arctic Dreams about the email I sent asking if they thought there was a break in period for the firmness aspect and whether or not it would get softer with use... This has been a "REAL" honest review and I was NOT compensated in any way for it!

Buyer beware - the manufacturer changed the mattress?
Initially the first mattress we got was amazing. Then one side started to dip in relatively quickly and we asked for a replacement via the warranty. The replacement was rock hard and not at all like the first. The company kept insisting it was the same mattress. My guess is that most of the good reviews are from 2016 and older, and that they changed the mattress to correct the continuous "dipping" problem I've seen others have. The problem is that the newer model is way too hard and not at all what we were initially happy with.

If they still make it years from now I'll likely buy it again.
I bought this mattress in the end of April and decided to wait to review it just in case something ended up going wrong with it. First off, 30 years old, 5'9" and 140lbs. It kind of bothers me when people review mattresses and don't include their body type. There is no mattress out there that is going to be great for every body type. Second, I have Ankylosing Spondylitis which is a rheumatic disease similar to rheumatoid arthritis but it mainly affects my spine. Specifically, my thoracic, lumbar, and sacrum (the bone that connects your spine to your hip bone). Needless to say, I live, and will continue to live, with back pain of varying degrees for the rest of my life. I have always preferred a firm mattress because I am, well used to be, a stomach sleeper. However, after 11 years of A.S. I can't do it anymore. I had a memory foam mattress years ago, it was very comfortable, I slept well in it, but when I woke up in the morning I was so stiff it felt like someone had beat me with a phonebook. Sitting or laying in one position for too long makes people that have A.S. hurt more. Anyone that has had a memory foam mattress knows that stuck feeling.I know that is a long setup to a review, but all of that comes into play when it comes to how comfortable a mattress is for me. After four months I can say I am very happy with my purchase and would have paid more for it if I had to. I actually bought a different mattress before this one but it ended up being too firm for me. There was nothing wrong with it, I just still had the mindset of liking a firm mattress when in reality I need a medium firmness. This mattress has the right combination of comfort characteristics that I need. This mattress is firm enough I don't sink in so far as to become the shape of a shallow bowl and soft enough that my hips don't have sore spots on them the next morning. A firm memory foam mattress that I returned before I bought this mattress caused me to have those sore spots. By far the best part of this mattress is the Energex foam layer. The Energex foam bounces back instantaneously. I did some research and it actually bounces back and provides more support after it absorbs body heat. I never have that stuck feeling I had with my memory foam mattress. Morning stiffness will always be a part of my life no matter what I sleep one, but it is much less pronounced with this mattress. I can finally sleep longer than an hour at a time. I finally don't feel tired all day every day.The build quality is very good. The cover is well made and very soft and the thin pillow top layer adds a little bit of the laying on a cloud feeling. All of the corners of the mattress were even with no bulging lumps or indentations. One complaint people have mentioned is the edge support. Like many other foam mattresses, edge support can be a problem. However, for me, it hasn't been so far. When I sleep my torso is usually about a foot away from the edge and my knees about six inches away. I have never had the feel that I was going to roll out of bed. In fact, unless I lay on my side with my knees sticking out over the edge or on my stomach with my arm hanging down off the mattress, I don't feel like I'm going to roll off at all. Also, this bed is very comfortable for laying on your back. I do when I watch TV before bed. I sink just enough that my lower back is supported but still in a straight line from head to toe. In fact, I have actually been able to sleep on my back when I had to due to a recurring problem with a vertebra that slips out of place in my lumbar spine. That's right, not a slipped disk, a slipped vertebra. When my vertebra slips out of place I have no option but to sleep on my back since it takes the most pressure off my spine allowing it to slide back in place. When my vertebra would slip and force me to sleep on my back ,on my old mattress, I would maybe get a combined 45-90 minutes of sleep each night. All that being said, comfort is going to come down to your body type, any physical issues, and preferred sleeping position. If you are on the heavy side you may sink in too much and start to feel pressure on your hips or shoulders. If you are lighter than me you will probably still enjoy this matters, especially with the pillowtop layer. Finally, I don't get hot on this mattress. I don't notice any difference in temperature compared to my spring mattress probably due to the Energex foam's temperature regulation characteristics and not sinking into one position all night. I live in Phoenix, Arizona so a hot mattress is not an option.By the way, the mattresses really are made here in the USA. After selecting the free 7-10 day shipping I received my bed in 4 days. Confused by the shipment tracking detail I looked up more information on the company Dreamfoam Bedding. Turns out it is a family owned business that manufactures their mattresses right here in Phoenix, Arizona. No wonder they don't sleep hot.Well, this was a long review, but I hope it helps. I am really happy with the mattress and when I remember how much I paid for it I get even happier. It's no easy for someone with back problems like me to find a mattress that is comfortable. It used to take an hour, sometimes two, for the morning pain and stiffness to subside with my last two mattresses. Now it only takes 30 minutes to an hour. For me, that is a big win! A couple month after I bought this mattress a coworker asked me, "how's that mattress you bought on Amazon working out?" That's when I realized I hadn't thought about my mattress lately, which was a good thing. Before buying this mattress I used to think about how much I hated my mattress daily. β

Still good after 15 months
I loved the bed after the first night but I had to contain my enthusiasm for writing a review as I do not think that a week, or even a month, of use can truly judge the quality of something like a bed. After 15 months of use it is still as comfortable as the first night. I would buy another even if it had worn out. I do not feel overheated in this bed and there is very little motion transfer. Just the other night I tested it again to ensure it had maintained this attribute by bouncing up and down rather violently while my wife was lying next to me and she was blissfully unaware of my jackassery. If I'm still around in a year I'll add an update.
