Respectable and affordable
I’m a piano teacher of 20 years. I own a Roland F1-40. I love this keyboard for teaching because it’s tough and yet simple. But then I wanted to write my own music and do actual gig work. Carrying the F1-40 was too heavy and it takes forever to find the sound I want since the only way to find the sound is scrolling up and down. I also tried the MPK midi player with my computer to make my own music but realized I’m way to advanced in piano to be messing with a mini keyboard. But not enough gigging experience to invest in those 5K red keyboards that all the professional gig workers sing praises about. I feel like this Roland D8 was the perfect keyboard for someone that is just entering the gigging and production scene but have a lot of experience with playing the piano. There is a bit of a learning curve and I guess because it’s a recently upgraded keyboard to replace the Roland DS there isn’t a lot of tutorial videos out there, but so far I am enjoying my keyboard and learning how to use the features. If you are an experienced musician, and want to do gig work and record your own music, but don’t want to dish out 5K I highly recommend this keyboard. The sounds that come out of this machine is like a chefs kiss.I got the D8 because I may actually use this for piano recitals since it’s light weight for me to carry but also weighted enough that my advanced students wouldn’t mind playing this.
