Finally found a film I had been searching for the last 20 years!
I am really happy to finally have this movie in my video collection! This was a film I watched as a 11-16 year old when it used appear on tv before cable existed. My parents and I used to watch it whenever it came on (it was shown in the US under the title of Five Million Years to Earth and until I discovered what it was called in Britain, I couldn't find it anywhere). We loved it and to finally get it in Blue Ray is fabulous! I have a non-region specific player that plays it and everything else I own. The color and sound of the blue ray is great, it never looked this good on a 19-inch B/W set or even the 25-inch color one we got a few years later. It was one of the best films Hammer productions ever did and even though it was filmed in 1967, it is not as dated as I thought it would be. It is fun to see the parts of London it was filmed in and how much they have changed since then. The 60's mod clothing on the people is great to see also. It is almost fifty years since they made it and it still looks fantastic!

Great movie, blu ray well worth the $20
The Blu ray is region B and the DVD is Region 2, there are no video extras, but there is secondary audio interviews during playing of the movie. Quality is best it can be for this old of a movie. it is widescreen to 1:66 so there are very small bar bars on each side as 16x9 TV's are 1:78. Audio is dolby digital 2 channel mono. Audio is very clear. there is graining in the video and a few spots with overly contrast, giving it it a bit of washed out look, but all in all very pleased with the video. Mine played fine in a Oppo Blu ray player with a region adapter that can play any A<B or C or DVD at all region or 1,2,3,4,5,6, keep that in mind, when buying will not just play in a American region A or 1 player, will play on a PC if you use anyd$d to make it all region playable also.

It looks great!!!
I just love this movie. I remember seeing it for the first time as a kid back in the 70's and thought it was so scary with giant grasshoppers trying to take over the planet and living spaceships and alien possession. What's not to like!!! I had not seen the movie since then so I was really looking forward to seeing it again in wide screen and in HD. Well, it looks just fabulous!! I would highly suggest getting this classic 60's movie as it is a very good piece of science fiction for the time. The movie is region B though so it won't play in most U.S. Blu-Ray players. However, I was very pleasantly surprised and happy that my 2012 MCE Blu-Ray player/burner for my Mac would play it. Apparently these players don't look at the region code. Woooh hoooo! Have fun!

Even The Devil would love this movie! Thank God!
Best of all UK sci-fi. Have seen it a dozen times or more, and it has surprises, especially on this Blu-ray. The interviews are especially wonderful with the actors who are or were still alive. Many are not. What a triumph of Science versus.... no spoiler here please. I am happy that they list this as Andrew Keir's movie. A classic case of Top Billing after the fact. Not that the actual Top Star was anything but perfect. He was. And, BTW, I have a lovely poster of the female lead, on her bycycle. Big Science always needs a gorgeous girl, usually the scientist's daughter, but that was almost avoided here. Almost. No leaving that doll on the cutting room floor! (The Climax of the movie is hers, hooked up to a brain scanner.)

Five Million Years to Earth
I am absolutely thrilled. I saw this movie as a kid when it first hit the States and have wanted it for a long time. Fortunately I have an all regions dvd player. An all regions blu ray player is on my list. Years ago I ordered Quatermass and The Pit, and that is what I got. Good movie, but not Five Million Years To Earth, which is the U.S. name for it. Much like many movies made in the UK the name was changed. All I can say is WOO HOO !!!

A Fun Movie of Nostalgia
I remember this movie from Saturday TV at Halloween time. A Hammer horror with a good cast. A bit schlocky, but fun to watch for the nostalgia.

Classic
Its a classic Hammer horror movie. It's a wonder that in this day and age with films running out of idea's, why they have never attempted a remake. With modern effects it would be amazing but still set in the 1950's to retain that period feel. Now back to the Film!!

Down in the tube station at midnight
Great film, ripe for reassessment, with a fantastic transfer - just don't expect a reference quality disc as this is an old film - above average sound and with plenty of worthwhile extras. Love the cover art too! If you're vibe is intelligent sci-fi mixed in with a little paganism and spot the London location then this is for you.

Not as scary as it when shown on the cinema in 1967
Having seen the original B & W BBC production of this title a number of years prior to this movie coming I went to the cinema to watch this movie and was really impressed. Having seen it a couple of times on the TV over the years I bought this BluRay and although it is perfectly reproduced it just somehow does not seem as interesting these days. Still a good movie to watch if you have not seen it before or only seen the original BBC production

It comes clean at last
I have always loved this film since first viewing it on late night horror on the BBC many years ago and have worn out the video copy I finally managed to get long ago. This was a pivotal buy as it was the first Blu-Ray disc I purchased, and after enjoying the pretty good quality on the DVD buying my first Blu-Ray player inevitably followed. A bit of a revelation, but not quite as much as all the hype led me to expect. Nevertheless, it was welcoming an old friend into the 21st century. The plot? An intelligent, pacy drama with sci-fi and supernatural elements, crafted by the late, great Nigel Kneale, the father of UK sci-fi thanks to his creation of the driven Professor Quatermass. Hammer used the gruff American actor Brian Donlevy for their adaptations of the first two Quatermass serials in the fifties, but the gap that followed before this third serial made it to the big screen allowed a bigger budget, although being Hammer it was still ON a budget. Never mind - the effects are real creations as opposed to the ubiquitous and frankly overdone CGI of today and in the main come off. The pace rarely lets up and you can forgive the occasional cheesy effect. But it's the plot that shines, many threads of fear in mankind's imaginative mind being cleverly woven together which build towards one fearful climax where action had to be taken, and it was James Donald's man of the moment Roney who nicks the last heroic stand to save London from disaster after the Government failed to listen to the warnings of Quatermass. Great support from stalwarts such as Peter Copley, Noel Howlett and Edwin Richfield all add to the storytelling and although Barbara Shelly is a bit underused Julian Glover's sceptical Colonel Breen, foisted upon Quatermass's British Rocket Group is a brilliantly realised counterpoint which may have been less effective in someone else's hands. Considering Anthony Bushell's original Breen was so excellently played on the small screen, it says much for both actor's talents in bringing this unsympathetic and rather limited character very much to life in different ways. The Quatermass franchise was undoubtedly an influence on Doctor Who, and !Quatermass And The Pit" may have played a part in convincing the BBC that moving "Who" to be far more earth-bound just two years later would be a good thing. Just my humble opinion of course, but this film is without doubt the best of the good Professor's outings. Despite being the fifth actor in the role to date Andrew Kier's characterisation is (in my opinion) definitive and that says something, as Andre Morell's "Pit" Professor was darned good in the first place. This Blu-Ray simply makes watchinlg this film a great experience again and the extras - no "making of" unfortunately - are quite good with plenty of interviews, notably Julian Glover. All extras are on the BR, the DVD is plain vanilla but that, and the fact the film was mastered to BR quality in the first place, may account for why the DVD film itself looked very good on first viewing.
