and some good reviews that said it left a lovely striped effect
I never write reviews, but I feel it is my duty to warn people about this machine. I have had it now for one year and five months and it is now sitting in my garden after burning out in a cloud of smoke after completing half a stripe. Obviously this is rubbish and could be a one off, but let me go back to the beginning. I bought this mower because of the well regarded name Hayter, and some good reviews that said it left a lovely striped effect, which I have always wanted. I spent over £200 because they are meant to be the Rolls Royce of mowers and was looking forward to a cutting my new lawn (moved house) with the best lawn mower a lot of money could buy. Disappointment has flowed through my veins since the first use and I shall tell you why. First of all I have a fairly small sized garden (35' x 12') with bushes down one length and a shed in the corner. And I cut it every week, or two at the most. You would think a mower from a reputable company should breeze through this, right? Not so with this particular model. I have to empty the so called grass collection box three times during the mowing of my lawn and still have to pick up or rake the lines of cuttings it leaves in between the stripes, which is ridiculous and leaves me fuming every time I use it. Although if it actually collected the grass, you would hurt your back removing the collection bag with a series of moves not dissimilar to a game of twister to get the thing out, when it could be made so simple. I suppose it's not such a terrible hardship and you get used to it, but combined with other simple design flaws, raises the blood pressure. Another flaw is the grass cutting lever, that snags on every bush on the side of my lawn, just like the screw cogs to keep the handle on at the overlong unwieldy setting it is. And the safety switch that turns off quite regularly mainly due to four or more blades of grass clogging up the system or if you are holding the switch in the middle and it bends out of contact. Apart from all that it has cut my lawn for less than a year and a half before dying so it is cheaper than a gardener but I certainly can't recommend it to anyone. You would think I would be angry about it going up in smoke half an hour ago, but I am actually happy that I can get a proper mower now for half the price. Obviously I'm annoyed I spent hard earned money in the first place but they might be amazing about it and it might turn out I had a faulty machine from the beginning, and of course I will update this review if this is the case.

Excellent value
This is a good mower, easy to use and excellent value. It arrived very quickly.

A robust design
The machine was well packaged and easy to assemble. It is efficient, easy to operate and maintain. It gives a clean cut in definite stripes, with a large grass collection box needing fewer trips to the compost binI can handle it quite well but my wife finds it too heavy.

i have recently bought a Hayter Envoy and am thoroughly disappointed. I have been cutting my lawn for 30 years with other mowers with no problems. This mower is heavy and difficult to manouvere. The grass box collapses and is not easy to attach or empty. The rollers so far have not given a lined effect that i was expecting and the lawnmower cuts the grass very coarsely. The cable is difficult to tidy away once used and i wish i had bought a different mower with smoother cut and better finnish.

My new mower
I did have a great little Atco mower which the motor gave out on and would have liked to have got a new version. I bought the Hayter on recommendation from a garden Center and on its first use I found that a bit of moisture on the grass and the exit chute blocked up all the time and was a real pain to use having to turn it over and clean it with hardly any grass in the bag. The bag when removed is not so easy to refit due to its design and the plastic top part on the bag falls of nearly every time you pick it up. It's pretty heavy but seems to rattle when you use it as if its flimsy. All in all its not bad but I won't listen to others in future and buy what I know and have had good service from.

It's useless
Had this for over a year & I should have reviewed it sooner. So:This is the worse lawnmower I have ever had. Designed by some evil mind. If it is slighty damp out there, don't try, You will have to set it at a high cut & even then it will not throw the cuttings into the bag. I have never yet managed to fill the bag b4, it all clogs up. Emptying the bag is an unbelievable stupid system. It sound powerful when first used, but slightly wet grass & the blade james up with grass so turn it updaised down clear this know of wet grass.!! DON'T BUY IT. THis is now on the way to the dump I cannot stand it anymore.

A great little mower
I did a lot of research before plumping for the hayter, despite the numerous negative reviews on amazon. After having the mower for a month or so and completing three or four cuts, one with dampish grass, it is great and I have no idea what mower the other reviewers are talking about! It is heavier than other mowers and a lot more solid, none of this flimsy plastic rubbish, this was a positive for me, but if you have to lift your mower before use, bare this in mind as it is a bit of a back breaker! Can't fault it, good cut, good grass collection, relatively quiet too!!

Excellent machine.
Cuts really well whether wet, dry, long or short. only reason I haven't given five stars is the grass box could be better designed. [too small and too fiddly]. Would i buy another should the need arise? Absolutely yes
