Absolute must for anyone installing tile
This is a great tile cutter that can handle large tiles. It is the exact same unit as the Kobalt model sold at Lowes for around $110, so don't waste your time at the big box store, buy it here and save around $40. This cutter is built very well, it should last several years. If you're only doing a small project or a single room, you can skimp and pick up a $25 cutter at a big box store. The rails on these cheaper cutters tend to flex and bow after about 50 or 60 cuts, so it will be junk when your done using it. I've used the M-D cutter on several big (1000 sq. ft. or more) tile jobs, and all I've had to do is change the cutter wheel out ocassionaly. Highly recommend this cutter to anyone that is serious about high quality, durable tools.

Works just fine within limits, even on porcelain
I bought this to install 13" stone-look (irregular surface) porcelain tile and, for the most part, it works like a charm. Much faster than a wet saw for straight cuts. Diagonals take a bit more effort and I did have a couple of ruined tiles. That's partially because the guide isn't great for diagonal cutting and you need to be very careful to get the score over the center of the cutter before snapping the tile. If you need to do a lot of diagonal cuts on expensive tile I'd go with a wet saw. I did find that the fence/guide just doesn't want to stay in place no matter how much I tighten the knob - it's pretty flimsy. I never had to score any of the tiles more than once (as specified in the instructions) - straight cuts snapped clean every time. I imagine a lot depends on how much pressure you put on the handle for that one score.Still, I'd recommend this to anyone who needs to do a lot of straight cuts - works just great for that.

Problems cutting porcelin tile
My experience with this tool was very negative.I was unable to get a clean cut using this tool. The tile I was cutting was porcelin tile which has a harder surface than regular ceramic tile. But,I ended up with broken tile.My large porcelin tile cost over $6 each, so I couldn't afford to use this tool.Note: As a general building contractor ,I do know how to use tools properly.

Great tile cutter
I used this for 400 sq ft of tile when finishing my basement. This is a very high quality product and works great. The price was also right since i purchased it on amazon.

Worked okay after needed adjustments made
I'm a general contractor. The first job I did was with 18" porcelain tiles. The first tiles I cut were not snapping on the cut line, or would split off. I did a close inspection and discovered that the cutter blade was "dog-tracking" over the snap bar, and the fence was not set to 90 degrees. I was very disappointed in the quality control at the factory. I should not have had to adjust a new tool in order for it to work properly. After adjusting, I would still infrequently have a problem with the tiles not snapping straight the whole length. I'm not sure if it was due to the tiles being approximately 3/8 inches thick or what the matter was. I resorted to using the wet saw thereafter. These tiles were too expensive to have so much waste.

Practice first, it works...
Did my entire kitchen counter area (counter, two-tier island, and smaller cabinet area) with 12" ceramic tiles.. glad i spent a little extra to get a nice cutter like this. The ONLY negative is that on one end of the cut, I had MANY pieces that had a little "chad" or "lip" .. it's hard to file those things down, even with a file made for ceramic tiles. But, overall, good cutter for the money.

Heavy Duty well made product.
Very well made and works well. I had never done tile work before and this made the cuts fairly easy and quick with very little waste. One firm pass with the cutting edge and tiles snap straight and clean.

A useless tool
I ordered this product for a small DIY tiling project at home and it did not cut any single porcelain tile straight. Eventually I had to buy another one from Home Depot and return this one after a lots of wastage.
