Kind Of In Love With It
TL;DR Version: I love my Sawa (yes I named it) and its perfect for a space and energy saving solution to moderate paper shredding needs (would not do plastics/cards since they might tear up the blades/get stuck).Full Version: I must admit, I did not think it possible to love an office product that was anything other than the perfect pen. But lo and behold, I was wrong. I love this lil' guy. I was loathe to get an electric shredder for a number of reasons (my office is also the guest bedroom so space is premium and I don't want more things sucking energy in the house), so I started researching alternative shredder options. This was one of most recommended I saw and it was reasonably priced for what it was so I ordered it and make a point to use it everyday now. Hand crank shredding is extremely cathartic and my Sawa (as I named it) makes it a dream. So far as use goes: I'm a web designer and currently remote epidemiology tracer with my county's health department so I'm regularly shredding interview notes and the occasional check from web clients. I'm also paranoid about ID theft so I tend to shred anything with account numbers etc. as well and this guy handles it all like a champ! He's also delightfully compact in size (see pic, Mimikyu for reference) and a very pretty blue. The only "downside" is that because he is so compact, the paper slot if not big enough for standard US paper (8.5x11). However, if you fold paper in half long ways it works just fine, and so far I have not had any issues shredding folded paper. I do try to tear it in half down the fold then shred each piece but that's more to do with my fear of jamming him, though so far that hasn't happened. Like I mentioned at the top,The only things I would not recommend this guy for are: plastic/card shredding (the slot may fit them but because it is hand cranked I doubt it would turn out very well) and anything that requires cross-cut/diamond shredding level of shredding security (this is a straight cut shredder).

Thin paper only!
Over a period of 25 yrs, I'm going on my 3rd one! I like that it's small and non-electric. Its major weak link is where the handle attaches to crank part on the body. Since the handle is all plastic, if that handle is turned while there is thick paper being fed into the top slot, the handle will either just roll around uselessly, or a piece of the handle will break off. I don't know the proper name for that part of the handle, but it's where it attaches to the side of the unit. If the manufacturer would improve the durability of the handle, this would be a dynamite product. In the meantime, do NOT try to slice through more than 1 piece of thin paper at a time, or eventually that handle is almost guaranteed to fail. This is not to discourage you from buying this mini-shredder. Like I mentioned above -- this is my 3rd one. Just learn from my experience, and you will have bought yourself a nice little paper shredder.

useful
useful but not for high volume of paper as you can only feed in a sheet at a a time

Great shredder, but lid is loose.
Perfect shredder for my tiny office closet. I use it for somewhat sensitive docs, such as checks and papers with my credit card numbers. You do have to tear them so the pieces can feed into the shredder, but that's not a big deal. My only issue is that the lid is loose. You really have to hold it down, use tape, or affix a rubber band so that the lid doesn't pop off while in use. My 6yo loves to "help" me by shredding my papers, but I find myself holding it together so that he can use it properly. Next time I'll figure use rubber bands just to the left and right of the slot so that he can shred on his own. Otherwise, works much better than other manual shredders I've bought in the past and the pieces aren't too wide (less than 1/4 in).

The spouse laughed when it came in...but was surprised it actually worked...
...yes it is only for small jobs and cuts one thin folded (max) sheet at a time...no it doesn't cut anything thicker...reasonable expectations should govern here...the Japanese blades are sharp and cut well. Look elsewhere if you expect more. Of course remove any type of tape (Scotch or other) or staples before using.

Fun and useful
I was taken aback at first by the size: it’s small! If you are looking to do big shredding jobs this is definitely not the tool for that. But it’s perfect if you want something to shred those sensitive items that you get in the mail, on a once or twice a week basis. It works for most credit cards too.

My niece seems very happy with it.

Nifty little shredder
I use this to shred junk mail and checks that I've deposited from my mobile phone. I then use the shredded paper for my worm farm, and it sure beats manually ripping up paper to worm-sized bits. This is a tiny little shredder, though, as it can only shred one standard piece of paper (folded in half) at a time, so make sure that's all you need before you buy. If you try to shred more than one or two pieces at a time you'll probably break the handle. Also, be aware that you must hold the top down as you shred (one hand over the top, the other hand turns the crank). It's perfect for what I need, though, so 5 stars from me!UPDATE: A little over a year later, and the little shredder has pooped out on me. I would revise the above description to say that a single piece of paper TORN in half (not folded) is about all this little guy can handle. Any more than one layer will eventually strip the handle and it won't turn the blades anymore. I still found it handy, though, and for the price I'm happy to get another one.
