You may need to add USB power?
I am genuinely excited for being able to achieve something that has eluded me for some time. I have actually got a Blu Ray to play back through my vga projector. I have gone through a range of emotions from frustration, puzzlement to a eureka moment with this device but in the end it all came good. So when I couldn't get it to work I checked the connections, leads etc and even other devices before lighting on the fact the blu ray player may need a little help by plugging in a powered micro usb lead into the converter. As this does not come with one supplied I had wrongly assumed it would take its power from the HDMI socket. So, my Sony Blu Ray needs extra power in order to make it work however my Panasonic one does not. In the end if you are looking to watch Blu Ray movies over old technology then this is the one for you especially at this price? I can even watch Netflix and Prime now from the built in apps using my vga projector making viewing so much more flexible. All I have ever wanted to do was watch my paid for content just like I did years ago before the unforgiving world of HDCP. In case you are wondering I am using SPDIF for the sound and there are no lip sync issues.

Faulty power port, fuzzy picture
In my case this product required the use of the micro USB power port. However the port is faulty or badly designed. There is lots of left/right and up/down movement. When letting the micro USB connector go it promptly falls out or when it manages to stay in, does not supply any power anymore.I tried various micro USB cables in case it was my cable (as they don't provide a power cable (nor a 3.5mm jack cable)), but had the same problem with all power cables I tried. In the brief seconds when it was working (whilst holding the power cable in a certain position by hand), it turned out that the signal was fuzzy too.

It just works!
You would not believe the trouble I have had with these adapters in the past. This may be the 6th or seventh I have purchased and they all did the same thing: Work at first, turn the device of and forever broken. After reading the reviews however I decided id give it a shot once more, not expecting it to work at all. However I was absolutely delighted when this adapter was used without a problem for the first few days - and even happier now I have been using it for several months. It just works. I use this daily with my Mac Mini and my PS4 and have never had a problem. Being that it is an analogue output the highest supported format is only 720p which is of course fair game. I was a bit disappointed that there was no usb cable included for power however. I know that the power is seen as optional but I have never been able to get this to work for more than a few seconds on any device without there being a usb cable plugged in. micro USB cables are quite cheap however so I of course had one laying around - it would have just been nice to see one included. All in all if you need something cheap and actually intend on buying something that works you should consider nothing other than this one. You won't regret it

supports 1920x1200 and provides monitor ID through the HDMI connection.
Perfect! I am using this to connect HDMI sources to my old Dell 24" monitor which doesn't have any HDMI input.Good points:- supports max resolution of the display automatically (1920 x 1200)- identifies through the HDMI connection as the correct monitor (Dell 2407WFP)- audio out through the HDMI now comes straight out of the speakers on the monitor which are connected to the adapter (no need to plug the audio cable into the headphone socket anymore! :-) )- works with my simple HDMI switch box so that I can have more than one HDMI thing connected and easily switch the video and audio.I haven't tested with a source which requires HDCP but I am certain that this will work.Note that the adapter doesn't get hot or even warm during operation.

Both the connectors and the cable feel sturdy and well-made
The adapter works as intended for my laptop and 1680x1050 monitor. Both the connectors and the cable feel sturdy and well-made. The only drawback that keeps it from being perfect is the lack of a USB power cable. One certainly can use cables that commonly come with a USB charger, but they are usually too long for this purpose. A short 15-20cm USB power cable would do the job just right.

Great Problem Sorting Converter.
Spent ages trying to connect my monitor (VGA) to my Mac Mini’s HDMI. This brilliant converter did the trick due to it’s power supply on USB.Highly recommended.

Perfect!
After trying a couple of different converters which soon ended up in the bin I was lucky enough to stumble upon this little gem!Perfect for taking the video signal from a TV set top box to an old VGA monitor (my PC's second monitor that is switchable) so when I don't need both screen I can have the TV on one side. (audio into a mixer channel).

Excellent product
I bought this cable in order to try it in my 13 years old TV. I was sceptical since other cables didn't work in the past. I connected Now TV box set to the VGA port and worked. It also worked with my Xbox 360 and Philips monitor. Please note it doesn't have a micro USB cable. You'll have to buy one, however there was no need to power the device since it worked without one.
