COPD For Dummies (For Dummies Series)

Both of my parents have COPD but are at very different stages of the disease. This book has been a huge resource for both of them to browse through as a way to become more informed about their condition. Good tips, accurate and easy to understand. I believe this book will serve them well for many years to come.

Fantastic book. Lots of great information.

This is a good, basic introduction to COPD, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The chapters on the disease progression and the physical changes in the breathing apparatus are well illustrated and described, as are the chapters on medications. There is a good emphasis on life-style changes necessary to improve quality of life for COPDers. The only mistake I found was a common one: the author states in the chapter on exercise that if you're not able to talk and walk at the same time, you're going too hard and fast. That's simply not true for people with COPD,with the possible exception of those in the mild or very beginning stages of the disease. My lung function is about a third that of someone my age without lung disease and I know if I can walk and talk (much) I'm not working hard enough to keep my lungs in the very best shape they can be. The outing may be socially rewarding, but I'm not getting much benefit from it as exercise and if that's all I did, I would not gain functional benefit at all. The reason to exercise in the first place is so that we can enjoy a stroll through the mall with our friends or a day at the zoo with our grandchildren. Other than that, the book is a good introduction to COPD using the "small bites" approach that is the trademark of the "Dummies" books. I would recommend it for patients, caregivers and family members.

This book is so well written. Its very understandable and helpful. I read the first three chapters and then began using it as a reference book and looked up the subject that interested me in the table of contents. I learned things I wish I had understood years ago. I recommend it highly.

I got this for my mother and 82yo grandmother, while I am attending med school my senior mom and stoner grandmother get confused easily, so when she was diagnosed and ended up in ICU I encouraged both of them to learn more so grams COPD could be better managed because the doctor's didn't give her much, she says this works good she is doing much better with the knowledge of how to help live with this condition

I am a health care professional. I bought this book to assist me in leading a support group for those with Chronic Lung Disease. This book helps to explain many of the intricate details of the conditions in terms that are easy to understand and follow. It also offers a great variety of info on how to cope and live a better life with Lung disease....

This book was written quite sometime ago. There are better books available. It does contain a lot of information but is a real downer! It implys that the life expectancy is only 5 years. Does not include anything about Covid or new med's that are available.

If you have COPD as I have had for the last 20 years, this book is what you need. It would take a doctorweeks to answer these many questions. It is in simple and plain language. I have marked a lot of the pages that apply to me and my problems. Worth the money I spent.

I had checked all the books on COPD and decided this one would answer all my questions and I was right!!!It is easy to follow and understand,all the information is there.

This is a very informative and easy to understand Book. My only reservation would be that it is tailored to the American health system with regards to some of the references. Besides this it was very well received by my mother who needed information regarding her condition and as far as I know there are very few other publications available on this subject.

Very comprehensive, informative book with everything you need to know and understand about COPD.

If you need to know about COPD, this is the book for you. Don't let the title put you off. We thought we knew a lot about COPD but this book is an eye-opener. Before you go anywhere else, peruse this book first as it gives you a good knowledge base.Excellent.
