"And They Lived Happily Ever After..."
The final words of the film, above, are perhaps just as important to the film industry (and, indeed culture) as the opening sequence of a grand old book being opened.'Snow White' just about sums up why Walt Disney was a special individual. This is perhaps more prevalent when comparing the film to his second outing, Pinnochio, which is undoubtedly his masterpiece when it comes to artwork and technicality, where you can clearly understand how this film was a learning curve for both Disney and his artists. But Snow White is just special - it is the natural progression of Walt's storytelling that makes this 'the' perfect fairy-tale. The film is so compact and neat that no scene is ever without a purpose, leaving little room for the viewer to rest from the story. What's also apparent is a delightful innocence in the script and style of dialogue, leading the main characters to explaining actions and thoughts much more directly and thoroughly as if the film was indeed a childs picture-book. This youthful nature makes Snow White much more idealistic and safe than any Disney film after, which is purely down to Disney becoming more ambitious. The animation of this film is easily up their with Disney's Top 3 (Snow White, Pinocchio and Fantasia), and offers probably the best landscaping artwork of all his films - it's that beautiful. The character artwork isn't as texturized as later films, but uses block colours for simplicity which is indefinitely more effective for the story-book feel. Don't forget about the immense technical advances that were not only discovered during production, but made just for the film (inevitably, being used for every animation after). Not only was Snow White the first feature length animation in Technicolor, but it was the first to be Multi-Planed (multiple 'cels' placed above each other to create the illusion of depth), the first to be rotoscoped with live actors, and the first animation to be nominated and earn awards. Not bad, eh?If you've never seen Snow White before, then you may be genuinely surprised and, hopefully, delighted at just how neat and tidy it is as a film. To some, this may be seen as a weakness because the story is inevitably predictable and in many respects primitive to latter standard, but their is a point being missed here. Disney was the father of 'the happy ending' - the single most important feature of Disneyfication. He took an old fable about a princess, and turned it into an idealistic, dreamlike experience that has become timeless. The way in which he did it, I've found hard to describe, but Snow White remains both the bench-mark and the framework for tales of later films. And if you're not welling up in the eyes by the end, then make sure you're watching the right film!

A Classic Film
Made in 1937, Walt Disney was told that he was taking a huge gamble in producing a cartoon lasting some 80 minutes or so which was unheard of at the time. However, many years later, it is now recognised as one of his finest creations and one of his most popular ever. The story, quite simply, a beautiful princess has a jealous stepmother, the queen who plots to have her killed. She escapes when her would be assassin cannot carry out the deed, so she escapes into the forest until she finds by accident a cottage where the 7 Dwarfs live. These scenes between Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs are some of the best of this wonderful movie, exploring every emotion possible. The final scenes though are some of the most emotional ever, so even if you have seen it before, it still tugs at the heart stringsWith the ever growing popularity of Blu-Ray it isnt surprising that this classic movie should end up on the new format. Bearing in mind the age of the movie though, it isnt pin-sharp; indeed some scenes are a little soft in detail. But, this enhances its charm and I for one do not have a problem with that. The movie is shown in 4:3 format and accessing the menu page you can add Disney View which provides coloured pillars which change from scene to scene either side of the screen instead of black bars. The soundtrack is very good too, in surround sound if you have a home cinema system. The extras abound on the second disc and will keep fans happy for hours. With prices of Blu-Ray discs coming down, it is a good buy even though some critics will say that it is cheaper to buy the ordinary DVD version and upscale it.It is a choice for the purchaser of course. However, I will definetly recommend the Blu-Ray Version.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
When you talk about classic animation it doesn't get much more revered or classic than `Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. The animation here is simply beautiful, even by today's standards, and this is all the more impressive when you take into account the year this was made, 1937. Even better, it is now digitally restored for it's latest release. This is a wonderful fairytale that is full of charm, none of which has diminished over time. This has the delightful dwarf characters and each one adds something unique to the film, of course Dopey is the most hilarious and the one that had me laughing out loud regularly. These dwarfs have now become representative of Disney's early art and are still seen around the parks and on advertising even today. This film has a dark edge to the story that is lacking from the saccharine modern Disney films and this darkness compliments and highlights the light in the rest of the film and in my opinion it is all the better for it. There are nice animated touches throughout, like the detailed carvings in the dwarf house and the forest animals expressions and actions and show the attention to detail Disney brought to his films. This package includes various extras and games, most of which are aimed at kids, but there is a commentary by Walt Disney that is fascinating and of interest to an adult audience. All in all this is classic and beautiful film and well worth adding to your Disney collection.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Stunning 4K Restoration. Absolutely recommended
Similar to their 4K restoration of Cinderella, Disney has outdone themselves with this restoration also. I had the 2009 blu ray version which I had thought looked very good, but this 4K disc blows that away. The new scan of the original camera negatives and the HDR on this makes such a huge difference in terms of color fidelity and brightness--and the contrast between light and dark. I did a comparison of the 2009 blu ray and this 4K disc. Just wow! The 2009 blu ray looks overly bright and washed out compared to the 4K. Highest recommendation!

Excelente 4K UHD
