A budget friendly, elegant, yet beastly knife...
After carrying this thing for two and a half years, I have to say I’m impressed by how well it’s held up!For starters, it’s ergonomic- it just fits my hand and lends itself to being held in a variety of positions, for a myriad of uses, quite comfortably. And, while highly subjective, I know, the knife is quite the looker. Its lack of the whole “tacticool,” aggressive lines and batmobile flat black aesthetics lends it a gentlemanly air. Folks tend to find it more pretty than scary when I whip it out 😁Now on to the usage details of my review... first there’s the edge retention. The steel takes an edge nicely, and holds it well. There have been no chips, no knicks, no bent tip... nada! All I do is hone it back up to razor sharpness from time to time.It locks up as securely as it did the day I took it outta the box in 2016. And it opens as smoothly and easily today as it did then. The roller bearings have needed zero maintenance in the time I’ve owned it. Nothing has needed tightening or repair in terms of the pivot or the locking surfaces.I am a general contoractor, and this thing has been my EDC on countless construction sites. It’s been my companion on many camping trips in the Mojave, the Sierras, the Lost Coast, and road trips aplenty. It has survived the kind of abuse that I inflict upon knives that killed both my Benchmade Ares and Presido in less than a year a piece! This here knife sits in the ranks of my Ka-Bar, my Benchmade Nimravus, and my Leatherman Charge for quality, durability, functionality, and bang for the buck. Out of the dozens of knives (and multi-tools) I have owned over the last quarter centuary, the Hootenanny might well be the best folder I’ve ever carried...There is one issue I did have thought, to be honest... and that’s that I bent the dang pocket clip like the third day I owned it. It’s a common issue I have with a lot of folders; in order to have a clip that slips over the lip of your pocket, it has to have enough of a flare that it tends to get caught on seatbelts, chairs/armrests, and anything else a little less than waist height for me. But I bent it back into place with the aforementioned Leatherman Charge, and more than two years later it’s still good to go!I snapped a few pics so you get the feel of what EDC since late 2016 has done in terms of ware and tear on the knife. And the shot with the 20 and Zippo gives you sense of the knife’s size and proportions.

Great low price EDC
This Knife has most of the features found on much more expensive knives.Fit and Finish solid and clean. Blade centers in handle closed, locks in solid with no wiggle at all when open and locked. There is no spring assist when opening knife, but it truly does not need it.Blade stays firmly in place when closed keeping it from ever opening up partway while clipped in your pocket.Once the blade is open part way it glides with no friction all the way to the locked open position.I have good spring assisted knives but have never had an unassisted knife: a) stay firmly closed when closed with no tendancy to open part way b) move with no drag while part way open all the way to locked position c) have no loose feel or wiggle in the blade after it is locked. Most manual pocket folders need a firm hand trying to snap them open. Or they are easy to open but the blade feels loose.Clip carrys the knife tip down when closed, a feature I like.Because the knife stays closed when not in use, the pressure needed to open the blade at all, is enough to snap it all the way open. The result is everyone can snap it open like a spring assisted knife. It is my new EDC even though it is one of the cheapest knives I own.So far the edge is holding up well, only touch it up once a week with fine porcelain rod sharpener.

I love this knife
I love this knife. It is very sharp from the factory, and light. I can open and close the blade one handed, which I like a lot. I have the knife for just at a month and would highly recommend to anyone that wants a good overall knife.

SO close to getting five stars...
I really like this knife. I could have easily given it five stars, but there are a few things that kept me from it: 1) The pocket clip is sharp, and the end of it sticks out enough that it creates a hot spot when gripping the knife, and hurts when your hand brushes against it when it is in your pocket. A few minutes with emery paper rounded the sharp point to a softer edge. Of course, this rubbed off the coating... I decided to "age" the entire coated part of the liners. It actually looks cool., and softened the sharp, factory edges of the jimping a bit. 2) The flipper is just a bit too small to get a good flick on. It too, had some fairly sharp edges on the jimping, A little more emery paper work solved that, but the flipper is still short. If you press inward, toward the liner lock rather than straight back toward the palm of your hand, the blade will not move, and it feels like the IKBS pivot has failed. It took me a while to realize that there is a "right way" and a "wrong way" to flip this bad boy. (My finger is still a little sore this morning). The photo shows the "aged" look, and the rounded pocket clip. I like how doing this "made it my own."Once I spent a little time softening the edges and learning how to finesse the blade open, I love it. It is larger than most of the knives that I RDC, the RAT II being my favorite, but it is not too heavy, rides very nicely in the pocket of my cargo pants, and will no-doubt meet all of my EDC needs. It is an exceedingly cool-looking knife! Ken Onion is an artist, as well as a knife-maker. The Hootenanny is probably not going to be ideal as a first knife for your kid, or for a girl with delicate hands as it is a little beefy.

10/10 will continue buying and using this knife forever
This is my second hootenanny, and so long as they are made, they will be my go-to edc. Fliud open and close, durable - my last one gave me 5 years and would have given me more if I hadn't dropped it and broke the tip off. The steel holds a good edge, I use it daily to cut bags, boxes, etc and also at rhe camp site for whittling, cutting rope and paracord... Best one handed open and closing knife I've ever used.

Leichte Messer
Angenehmes, leichtes Messer. Hatte es nur kurze Zeit zum testen, mich dann aber für ein massiveres Produkt entschieden.Trotzdem ein Messer von guter Qualität und hervorragend zum mitnehmen geeignet da es nicht groß ist und wenig Gewicht hat.
