Simply the best cannot find fault in any way!
Smooth, warming, and full of character—Spanish brandy at its best Soberano 5 Reserva is a delightful surprise for anyone who appreciates a well-crafted brandy. From the first sip, it delivers a smooth, mellow warmth with notes of dried fruit, vanilla, and a subtle hint of oak. It’s beautifully balanced—neither too sweet nor too sharp—and has a depth that makes it perfect for slow sipping. The finish is long and satisfying, with just enough complexity to keep you coming back for more. Whether enjoyed neat, over ice, or as the base for a refined cocktail, it holds its own with elegance and charm. Presentation-wise, the bottle has a classic, understated look that reflects the quality inside. For the price, it offers exceptional value—easily rivaling more expensive brandies. A fantastic choice for relaxing evenings, gifting, or adding a touch of Spanish sophistication to your drinks cabinet. Highly recommended for both seasoned brandy lovers and curious newcomers alike

Let it air and it really shines
First foray into brandy. When I opened the bottle, I was disappointed to see the flow restrictor. That usually means you're buying a drink designed to be poured into mixers. It also means the booze doesn't aerate inside the bottle properly, trapping in the alcohol fumes. Sure enough, upon pouring the first glass, that's all I got: alcohol fumes and a hint of funk. It was not enjoyable. Nor was it after adding an ice cube. It was a couple of days before I worked up the courage to try it again, and I'm extremely glad I did! The headiness of the alcohol had finally cleared and what was there was mind blowing. It has the sweetness and body of a good rum (not the spiced crap we drink in the UK), it has the lingering raisin sweetness of a well aged Chilean pisco, and on top of that is a beautiful and rather addictive nutty and caramel aroma, with a full toffee body. It may be a little uncomplex for the seasoned whiskey drinker, who might enjoy a bit of bite to their dram, but this is a very easy sipping drink. Enjoyable from the first to the last sip (less that first glass). Drink it neat. Room temp. Let it air. For the price, you won't get a rum as nice.

Amazon's description is wrong but the brandy's spot on!
This brandy is not "5 Year Aged" as in the title. The "5" refers to the number of sherry casks through which it has passed during production, hence the "Sherry 5 Cask" on the label. Its producers, Gonzalez Byass, state on their website that it is normally between 1 and 3 years old. That said, it's one of the most delicious brandies I have tasted and is now the only one I buy - except when I feel extravagant, when I buy Soberano 12. This is not 12 years old but, as before, has dwelt in up to 12 sherry casks and is generally around 7 years old.
