YES these are VERY difficult to open if you don't know the TRICK. They are supposed to behard to open so they don't just open willy nilly and let your bound stuff fly all over unexpectedly,so before you pass on these (I have arthritis trust me even I can do it), KNOW that you CAN openthese easily IF YOU KNOW THE TRICK. Inside each closure is a little we'll call it a "barb" and this preventsthem from opening unexpectedly. SO in order to open these to use you need to unlatch that verysmall "barb" ....it's not difficult. The way you do that is to simply push the two sides (that appear to belatched) push them even more towards each other (say for example's sake north / south ) and then quickly switch to pushing the clasps )east/west) direction which you were trying to do originally to separate them for opening. I can't really explain it better than that. Once you have the trick down of "un-barbing" them before you pushthe clasps apart to open them you'll be surprised at how easily that works. Shame it had to come to this of courseand they lost 1 star for that difficulty but they function just great, the color is deep and won't come off and bestpart of all is they won't open during your presentation (using notecards/hey I'm old fashioned) for example...andyou'll look as smart as you will feel after you learn to open/use them. :) Have a great life.

I bought a different brand of rings but they were kind of on the thin side. These are really sturdy. I put them in a spiral sketch book where the spiral thing was getting out of whack and bent and I couldn't turn the pages or get it closed properly. These work really well.

I needed three... this comes in a pack of fifty! Quality is good though. I now have a lifetime supply. :)

I read comments before I got these and a lot of them said these were hard to open. I just assumed it was being done wrong with not enough strength, but that wasn’t the case. After I got them I went to open one and it took a LOT of struggling to get it open. I ended up sorting through the box of rings and only about half opened up. I’m not a strong person, so that could be me, but I did still expect them to be easier to open. It felt like they almost weren’t supposed to open at all sometimes. I’d assume if you opened and closed it enough times it would loosen, but it takes so much effort to open that I really don’t see the point in doing it over and over again.

I do a tons of scrapbooking as a business and I love the design and the quality! I went through quite a few sellers and so far - wow, wow, wow! The best of the best!!!

I almost didn’t purchase this product because the comments stated that many are not able to be opened without tools. Well, I ordered them anyway. When they arrived 40 put of 50 opened normally. The remaining 10 were difficult to open but with a little effort I managed to open all 10 without any tools. I’m 80 so it it not all that hard for a younger person. They are just what I needed and they have not lost any of their black paint,

I got these originally to help hold some Outdoor LED lights to a guide wire, after having the Zip Ties lost their ability with the UV impact from the sun.Not only do these work great for the intended purpose, but I have used them now in a half dozen other projects.

While some were a little hard to open, it's clear to me that they won't open on their own. Would buy again if needed.

Easy to open and close. Will buy again.
