Excellent bag, well designed, slim profile
I have been using this bag for about a month and I am very pleased. I wasn’t impressed with the website description so I will try and improve it here. I use it as a daily carry bag for just about everything including my books, papers, tablet, and coat. The Cordura material does not have a mark on it yet, even after a spill down a concrete driveway. The bag is well designed to shed water if you are out in the rain. The top cover pocket zipper has a lip to shed water. The fabric shed water rather than absorbing it.The other zippers are firm and seal well. They were initially quite stiff but are smoother now after some use.The bag’s left pocket expands into a pocket for a water bottle or cup and zippers closed quite tight when not in use. My experience is it can take anything with a 3” diameter or less. The pocket depth is about 5 1/2”. All my Contigo cups fit snugly and will not fall out even when the bag is laid down. My Bubba 24 oz cup with a base of 2 7/8” fits well and sticks out less than 3 1/2”. My Camelbak 32 oz tear drop bottle with a base of 3 3/8” does not fit.The other side pocket has a Velcro top flat and fits my reading glasses in their case (2 1/8 x 6 1/2 x 1 3/4”) perfectly. The range of pockets makes organizing easy. The pocket on the flap is easy access but cannot take a lot of depth. I use for storing cables, ear buds, charger plugs, or the laptop brick. The zippered front pocket is large enough to easily and securely hold a Kindle Paperwhite lying sideways as is of the interior Velcro pocket. The largest interior organizer pocket is large enough to hold a Kindle standing vertically but this is not as secure. The interior zippered pocket is about 4 x 5 1/2”. It is fairly shallow though. It will not zip shut with a men’s wallet 4 1/4 x 3 1/2 x 1” for example. For that I use the front pocket. It does fit a passport in its cover. There are 3 pen pockets and one last pocket of nylon that flexes from wide and flat to a cylinder about 2” around. It’s good for the cable from your laptop but not the brick itself. The large interior pocket across the back has a padded divider and the back of the bag. This is for smaller laptops. It just fits the large iPad Pro 12” with an Otterbox style case (tight fit initially until bag works in a bit). On the back of the bag there is an open topped pocket. It does work for a boarding pass as stated. It also fits an iPhone 7 Plus in an Otterx case quite securely and is easily accessible as needed. From a carry perspective the bag rides very well from the shoulder strap. The attachment points are sturdy and the clips on the strap also swivel so it moves as you do. The handle on the back works, but the bag tends to rotate out of vertical so it is fine for short periods but not great for a long walk.My only improvements to this bag would be adding another inch of depth to allow for carrying more bulky items like a sweater or coat and improving the back handle so the bag stays vertical when carrying. I do carry a fleece without issue. The bag is certainly worth the money.

Well designed, well sewn, useful computer bag
My Samsonite laptop bag of 11 years fell apart on my last trip, so I selected this as a replacement. Mountainsmith is located in Colorado about 90 minutes away from where I live and warranties the bag forever.I had a few needs in a bag: shoulder carry, water bottle holder, fit under airliner seat, hold 15.4-14" laptop, and ride on rolling suitcase handle. This one does all of that.Definitely not a 'take everything including the kitchen sink' with you kind of bag, but now that I'm out of engineering school I definitely don't need that anymore. It fits either my personal 15.4" gaming rig (no room to spare at all) and the 14" work issued laptop. Plenty of room for my 10" tablet with either.A water bottle pocket was a feature I wanted. This one zips flap when not in use, has a drain hole, and swallows a .5 L Nalgene and snugly holds a 26 oz Yeti Rambler. Some reviews complain about the pocket opposite the water bottle pocket: It fits the small 14" laptop charger/cables snugly, of course the gaming rig's power supply has to ride inside the bag elsewhere. The number and style of the interior pockets are sufficient for my use, I also like the light colored (yellow) interior which makes it easier to find stuff inside.Bag's appearance is fairly conservative, but it is definitely a lot more "Boulder" than "Manhattan". If you needed to subdue it more the zipper pulls could easily be changed and a seam ripper would get the Mountainsmith patch off the front in a couple minutes. Some reviews complained about the plastic hardware. It seems pretty sturdy to me for the weight range of this bag, if it ever has an issue I'll warranty it. I'll try to return and update the review periodically, but right now, I'm a happy camper.

Consistent MountainSmith Quality
Quality consistent with the backpacks and large hip-packet from MountainSmith. I bought the Carhartt and MountainSmith (lage version) equivalent messenger bags......MountainSmith wins by a longshot.

Good bag for work
Right size and number / location of pockets. Would be perfect if there is zip for the main compartment & a sturdier carrying handle.
