Die Screaming Marianne (Blu-ray)

Painfully bad...
As with many others, I've been a big fan of Susan George, & she looks as beautiful here as ever.Sadly though, this film is one to forget - and a great pity too, as the early 70s is my favourite era for British movies, & the actual story sounded promising. It has a very muddled narrative & feels very disjointed - looking as though those involved were enjoying their time on location in sunny Portugal, rather than trying to craft a decent film! The whole film has an air of self-indulgence, which disconnects you as a viewer - & it's not long before terminal boredom sets.I couldn't even last until the end - I gave up!I guess it only serves now as an oddity and a ‘cult’ film that’s largely been forgotten.

But for me it's a nostalgia trip - watching Susan George on TV late Friday night many years ago & falling in love as a young tee
Very much a product of the time, this thriller wont be for everyone. But for me it's a nostalgia trip - watching Susan George on TV late Friday night many years ago & falling in love as a young teen, but not really remembering much else. Seeing it again all these years later (now as a proper grown up) was surprisingly enjoyable though. Some very atmospheric music (I remember clearly) & beautiful photography help it along. There are some plot holes & other parts of it make little sense, but the girls in my opinion steal the show here: Ms George (a smoulderingly sexy victim) & Judy Huxtable (a super psychotic vixen - but also sexy) are both excellent & it's a pity that both haven't partaken in any commentary or interview footage here. I also feel director Pete Walker could've given us more in the thriller genre, instead of so much horror during the 70's.Die Screaming Marianne isn't great, but it's certainly not all bad & as a cult film it does deserve a following - & it seems to have garnered just that.

Fantastic George in the Algarve
Full of nostalgia, a beautiful setting in London and the Algarve with the glamour provided by Susan George. Wonderful corn all round. Nice to see fresh faced " please sir " actor. I unexpectedly enjoyed this movie. Some will find it dated, but I like this stuff. Easy to watch and memorable.

Not great
A product of its time I suppose and doesn't live up to the publicity blurb on the cover.
