Architectural Graphic Standards
I had seen earlier editions of this publication and was impressed with the levels of detail and the wide ranging technical information enclosed. I have borrowed a copy on occasion to source specific information not covered by our regular building code information, and have successfully used it to show compliance and get a good working result. My only criticism would be that the later publication which relies on cumputer drawn images rather than the hand drafted drawings of the earlier version I was used to is not as easy to read, nevertheless I think it is a good tool for developing the technical aspects and detailing of a project. Well worth the purchase price.Delivery time from the U.S. to New Zealand was also exceptional and publication arrived within one week and in good order

Must have for students
A fantastic book for architects and students alike. Buy it early in your education and reap the benefits as long as possible with the endless amounts of diagrams and quantitative information regarding design requirements. For students, this book has a great resale value, and also comes in versions without the stainless steel plate in front for a considerable price drop.

Indispensable for Architects
Architectural Graphic Standards is an absolute necessity for architects. It seems expensive, I know, but in the end, it's worth it. The illustrations and notes make the theories of construction more easily legible, even if you're a layperson, and the tried and true construction methods are fool-proof for construction documents.

Necessary for all Design Firms
This is a fabulous resource for our Design Firm. It has been especially helpful in commercial settings where standards are the most important. Every design firm should have a copy of this book.

friendly handbook becomes unwieldly textbook
At first I was in denial. It's taken me a while to admit that my spiffy $200 purchase(aluminum cover plaque= sustainable?) is perhaps not what I would like it to be. I have found a fewuseful pages (like the discussion on accessibility requirements)Otherwise it's difficult to find anything in it , and the page layout isoften abominable....sometimes a title on one page is for a drawing on the next page...or in the next column.did someone actually check the page layout before it was published?Such a contrast to the readability of previous editions.Where the previous editions were chock full of useful information, this seems to be a theoretical treatise, lacking many useful cross references. Some of the discussions are very interesting...like the section onsustainable building...but it is not a good reference book in my experience. It is a very different animal from its predecessors..One could argue that I am just too used to the old format...yes....but maybe that's becauseit was a good format. I would like to see a free 11.1 update, :-) or at very least a good cross referenced index made available for $10, not $59.95.Check it out carefully before you buy....Of course it was written by many intelligent and knowledgeable people, and you may find it useful, but in a different way from the previous AGS.
