Just perfect
I love these as an alternative to just a mason jar on my counter for the sourdough. They are a great size and the added spatulas are nice, as an added note, the spatulas are only good for stirring not cleaning out the jar.

High quality glass jars for sourdough makes easy clean and mixing. See review for more.
I've had several sourdough proofing sets with jars over the past but this one stands out as a step above the others. The large size of the jar makes it easy to measure and include the ingredients for mixing assuring that the measuring cup can fully insert into the jar with the ingredients. No more spills. The diameter of the area in the jar allows for convenient mixing of the sour dough starter using the included jar scraper. The custom layout in the jar that holds the temperature labels gives this a jar a professional feel that is accompanied with the furniture grade wooden screw-on cover when storing you starter in the refrigerator. You can see from my photos that I use very little water and flour, only 50 grams each, when adding to my starter so I don't need a particularly large jar but having one is convenient so it doesn't get lost in the refrigerator and is wide enough to conveniently mix and work with. When I make sourdough bread, I'm only using 50 to 100 grams of starter in my mix and the rest goes into the refrigerator for my next baking session. Having the temperature labels provides a good safety backup in case something goes wrong with my proofing box (see photo). I usually don't worry about temperature as it is controlled with a special appliance. When I remove the starter from the refrigerator I simply put it into the proofing box for 60-120 minutes until the starter is active and ready to use. I take what is needed for the recipe and the rest goes into the refrigerator. The starter jar fits nicely into the proofing box and comes with the cloth cover to protect it from foreign yeasts. When I bring the jar onto my counter, there is a round silicone pad to help protect it. I'm glad that a pad is included as is protects the glass when being placed on my stone prep counter. The set includes a recipe book that looks appetizing. I'll have to break away from the single recipe I always use and try some of them out.

Great starter kit
Overall: excellent starter kit or replacement kitWhat I like:-the widemouth makes it easier to use than narrower jars-the wooden lid (has plastic inside) feels sturdy-the temp gauge is nicer than the very long ones that run down the entire side - much prefer this-the jar seems quite sturdy-I can completely close the lid, not just set a lid on itImportant to know:-the booklet is better than most, but if you really want to do sourdough, prepare for a bit of a learning curve and use one of the excellent websites devoted to it-you may not use/need the muslin covers (I don't use them)-if you decide to keep a smaller starter, it is a very large jar; that said, all jars are! I don't use discard much and so I keep a smaller starter most times and then just bring it up when I am ready to bake. This is a large jar to keep in my fridge

Every part of the kit useful.
So many of these kits contain parts that you just aren't up to par or that will never get used. Not so here. These jars are sturdy, well-marked so you can easily track rise rates, and have both good quality fabric caps for growing your starter and sold, attractive bamboo screws caps (with plastic interiors) for when your starter is ready to go into slow-feed mode. I have larger hands, so I like that the jars ar big enough that I can get my entire hand in them for cleaning. (The jar part is also dishwasher safe.) There is even a little indeed place in the jar to put the enclosed temperature strips, and the kit included two extra strips. Unlike a lot of these paper thermometers, these are easy to read. Since they attach firmly to the jar, they aren't going to curl up on you either. Also included are two elastic day/time reminder bands for feeding, two small silicone stirring spatulas, and a small booklet of bread recipes. Lastly, there are two round silicone mats. The kit says they are to insulate the bottom of the jars to help keep starter warm. I have my doubts about that, but they definitely keeps the jars in place, both while stirring the starter and on the counter. One already saved one jar of starting from hitting the floor when I accidentally knocked into it on the counter. Also, they can be used as mini-trivets for hot drinks or even spoon rests if you don't use them for the starter jars. The feeding day/time reminders are probably the only thing I won't use because I set a reminder on my phone for that. but I know a lot of people really like them. The price of this kit made me hesitate a little, but after years of appropriating random containers for starters and nothing being quite right, sometimes it's worthwhile to have a tool that is the right size, shape, material for the job. And if that tool looks good while doing what it is supposed to do, so much the better. I really like this set, and if I need a gift for someone who bakes, this kit would be my first choice.

Lovely Starter Set
This is my first sourdough starter kit (I'm late to the bread-baking frenzy from the lockdown days), and I'm in awe of how lovely this set is. The jars (I'm so happy there are two) are solid with nice-looking wooden lids, and the kit includes lots of great stuff to get you started on your bread-making journey--it even has a good instruction booklet. It's such a lovely set that is so well-made that I would buy it as a gift for friends and family looking to make their own sourdough.
