Make knife sharpening easier by getting the right whetstone. The King Combination Stone shown here has includes a stand and has what you need to remove grinder marks and finish with a polished edge. Review: Sharp blades, if you know how to use it. - Pricey but worth it. Japanese made with all labelling and text in Japanese. Using for nearly 2 years, resulting in very sharp knives. This requires some degree of skill, so watch some YouTube videos before sinking your money - that way you know if you want to go down this path. A dressing stone should have been added in the pack, but the end result is good enough to give 5 stars. I got a dressing stone seperately and it was worth it. Wear on the brown 1000 grit side is slower than anticipated, which is good, as it means this will last longer. Dressing stone is really useful on the fine 6000grit side. I have found for best results a) always pull the blade b) if the stone seems to dry out after blade has run, a few drops is good c) soak the entire stone in water for at least 30 minutes before use (bubbles will stop) d) try and avoid hard water for soaking / sharpening activity. This is to extend life of the stone. I use drinking water that I get out of the filter. e) make sure your blades are extra clean with no residue of any kind. Just need blade steel, water and this stone. Good luck! Review: Best budget knife sharpening stone, made in Japan! - Best budget whet stone out there. 1000 grit grinding and 6000 grit polishing stones that are made in Japan. Comes with a plastic some holder which is also anti-slip. Very nice touch. You don't need a separate stone holder to use it. Watch some YouTube tutorials on how to use it before using it.

Good product !
Product is good and genuine. Though real skill is involved in sharpening knife, i did manage to sharpen it to a great extent in first attempt. Product quality helped. The polishing side of the stone is also really good. Gives a mirror finish to the blade. Though one has to use google lens to translate the text written and know how to use it. Else one can watch video on youtube. Would help immensely a lot if an angle holder is provided with it.

Sturdy and Efficient
If you know whetstones and the knife steel and edge then this stone is superb. Just keep it soaked in water for around 30 mins to an hour and then start working, wetting the stone from time to time to ease the grinding and remove the slurry. Using a wheat stone requires knowledge and practice around knife steel, the blade edge, the grind and the stone. If you are not careful and over do or under do you will ruin the knife edge and the stone at the same time. And also one has to remember that whet stones are softer than aluminium oxide based oil stones. Hence keep it well. But whet stones although take time they are much precise and beautiful to sort out rough edges, put on razor sharp edge back. However the quality of Kings stones seems to have fallen and may be because they are now manufactured in China. Otherwise even few years back these Japanese King Stones were real beauty and great tool to work with. But this quality difference is so fine that still the Kings Whet stone rocks. THANKS

A very good sharpening stone.
Very happy with the two sides sharpening stone. The base holds the stone in place. Apt tool for sharpening my knives and chisel. Thanks a lot.

Perfect!~
I really like the results of this stone. For a single sharpening, you do not need any other grits. if roughing is required, you can use Kai 240 Grit.

さすがキング様です。感謝しかありません。すごくいいです。包丁研ぎが好きな素人の私ですが、全く切れ味が変わります。実は以前もキング様のものを使っていたのですが、このコンビはすごくいいです。感動です。

Good value for combination whetstone, with fast shipping.
****Updating July 2017 - Just wanted to point out that I LOVE this whetstone, and still has a lot of life left even after two years of sharpening all of my kitchen knives (and also my plethora of scissors and blades). This is an excellent whetstone for home use. I try to use it all around the top so it wears evenly, and so far there's only a very small divet in the centre of the brown side, which I will have to try sanding flat. I soak mine for at least a full 24 hours before I use it (although usually more like 1.5 -2 days as I'll try to put it to soak like a Thursday night so I can sharpen my knives on the weekend). I have been trying to encourage various other family members from the different households to get this, since now it's become the case where everyone brings their knives over to my house for me to do it! Will be purchasing these for Christmas gifts this year ;) ******************************* Great combination whetstone with stand. I was having a hard time trying to find a professional sharpening service for Japanese knives - I am slowly growing my collection of Shun knives, and my oldest one needed to be sharpened. I decided I should learn since I am investing so much money in a great set of kitchen knives. I bought this combination stone along with an angle guide for Japanese blades, and started practicing on my old cheapo knives I've kept in my basement kitchen. After awhile of practicing, I have finally gotten used to the correct angles and how to hold and move the knife across the stone. This combination stone is great. The size is good for most any kitchen knives - I've since used it also to sharpen kitchen scissors and a couple of foldable utility knives. The stone is a consistent texture - the 1000 grit was great to sharpen up the edges on my knives to a razor sharp, smooth finish, and the 6000 grit basically polishes the edge, from what I could tell- bringing my knives into a mirror-like, incredibly sharp edge. The stand has rubber feet on the bottom so it holds onto the countertop well - very useful as it is a rather messy job. I believe basic instructions are included in the box, however it is all in Japanese. I just googled whetstone sharpening and watched a few youtube vids to see how it was done and that was enough for me to start. Shipping and packaging were fine - I do like the clear plastic box that it came in, I've kept it to store the block, stand, and the guide I purchased. Great quality, and good price. This was cheaper or on par with the few whetstones I could find in retail shops, and this also came with a stand, which is a really nice feature so you dont have to buy separately.
