## Description

Welcome to the new era of performance. AMD Ryzen 9000 Series ushers in the speed of “Zen 5” for gamers and creators with pure power to tackle any game or workflow on the digital playground.

Review: The 9700x is THE CPU to get for SFF builds if you're concerned about power and thermals - I've always wanted to do an SFF build that was just as capable for gaming as well as some creative work, video editing, etc, as my larger rigs. I currently have 2 main systems in the house: Asus Astral 5090 + 9950x3d and 4090FE + 9800x3d, both on larger Lian Li 011D Evo cases with 360 AIO and plenty of fans. Without those extra fans and larger cases, these systems would run hot, especially with the GPUs they were paired with, so I knew I wanted a CPU that would not only run cooler but also more power-efficient. Enter the 9700X. This is my current build and it's a supremely capable and thermally sustainable beast of an SFF build even under heavy 4K gaming loads. 9700X + 5080FE, MSI Mortar mATX mobo, 32gb CL30 Trident Z5 DDR5 6000 expo, Corsair H100i Elite 240mm AIO, and 3 Noctua 120mm low profile Chromax fans (1 intake from rear, 2 intake from bottom) all shoehorned in a tiny Jonsbo(Jonsplus) Z20 case. Passes all thee stress tests, and even at full 4K gaming loads, thermals are amazing for a SFF build with a 5080! At these loads, both the 9700x and the 5080FE temps are in the low to mid 60s, and rarely spikes over 70. These thermals are comparable to my larger builds with only a small sacrifice in performance mainly because the 9700x just can't compete with those X3D chips but can certainly hold its own at a much lower TDP. Gaming performance is amazing as paired with the 5080FE. That said, for me at least, an SFF is the only situation where I think the 9700x makes sense. Price was great and I bought this from desertcart for $265. I was originally going to do this SFF build with another 9800X3D but those have not come down from their $480 price yet and I already knew they ran warmer and drew more power, so I'm extremely happy with the 9700x and wouldn't hesitate to use it again on another SFF build. Highly recommend.
Review: Good upgrade CPU - Easy to install, fast to load games or web browsers. Didn't have any compatibility issues. And overall cooling is normal. Would recommend.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good upgrade CPU

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent CPU if X3D Is Not Necessary, Or Not Available
*by L***. on November 17, 2025*

Wanted to buy a 9800X3D, but they went out of stock right as I went to buy, so I opted for the 9700X. Managed to pick this up for $285 via an Amazon deal, and it has more than paid itself off. It's not an X3D CPU, so its gaming performance isn't going to win any awards, but what is there is still fantastic. I have only managed to max out this CPU in Blender and synthetic tests, not games: sandbox games, open worlds (e.g. Abiotic Factor), and VR—including Into the Radius 2, which runs in UE5—just can't push this CPU to its limit. If your primary focus is gaming and cores/thread counts don't need to reach the stars, buy the Ryzen 5 9600X, the older 7600X3D, or even wait for the upcoming 9600X3D. The 9600X and 9700X are nearly identical in gaming. I bought the 9700X only because I need multithread performance and the 9800X3D was not available for two months. Perhaps the 9700X's one true advantage over the 9800X3D is its TDP; this is a 65W CPU, whereas the 9800X3D is 120W. Besides consuming less power, the thermal load is more easily managed. I had a weird issue for a while where this CPU would spike to its TJMax and throttle when I opened File Explorer, but that was caused by my motherboard having an outdated BIOS, and has since been fixed. This CPU does not include a stock cooler, but this is a plus in my book; I quite enjoyed the Wraith Prism, but other Wraith coolers leave a lot to be desired. I happen to have an AiO on my CPU (Cooler Master PL240 FLUX), but for those on a budget, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin is $30-$40 and will do just as good. This CPU does average high temps; normal idle temps can reach 50°C. This feels really weird, but after the BIOS update, high-load temps take a while to reach 80°. I cannot give overclocking feedback, but it can overclock. PBO can give a little extra performance if necessary, but I have not enabled it yet, and don't intend to for the foreseeable future.
