NikwaxRug Proof

It took quite a bit of product (17 oz!) but it worked well. I’ll be keeping a bottle on hand.

I have tried sprays and this really is the best product for waterproofing a blanket

My horse trainer had told me that all the top grooms use the Nixwax products on their horse blankets. I can see why. It IS expensive, especially the waterproofing. Note that one bottle will only treat 2 blankets! But it is super easy, especially considering I used to hand spray stuff on, and it didn't work well. A rug wash and waterproofing later, and the most horrible blankets appeared fresh, clean, and waterproofed! I'm sold.

Exactly what we needed at home. Not many products work like they advertise and this did the trick!

I used the Rug wash and that 33oz bottle will wash several blankets (add 5oz or 7oz for hard water) I gave the wash 5 stars. The RUG PROOF ADD 17oz PER WASH ... so 1 33 oz bottle will only proof 2 blankets. So due to only proofing 2 blankets and the price I give it 4 stars. I wish I would of known how many blankets it would cover so I could of ordered 2 bottles at a time (I have 4 blankets). It did seem to work as I pulled it out of the washer I did see some water beaded up. As for some of the reviews that they did not want the inside of the blanket waterproofed due to rubbing the horses coat... at first I agreed but after using this product and thinking about it if the rain happens to go thought the outside layer I WANT the inside layer to catch the water before it get to my horse. I have had blankets (after long hard pour downs in South GA and the low country of SC) the blankets did start to asorb the water and because there was only one blocking layer, it started to reach the horse. I had to run and get him in the barn -get the blanket off the horse (now shivering!) and put a stable blanket on him to dry/warm him up) This product does not make the blankets harder or stiff. So my feeling it Id rather 2 barriers than just one. Just my opinion! I havent had a chance to put it to the test yet. If it does as good as I think it will I will buy again.

When it’s not raining it’s snowing here in Maine this time of year and this has kept my horse dry on 24/7 turnout. This will revive an older blanket. Other horses have their blankets hanging to dry after a big storm but my horse (and others that use Nikwax) are completely dry and happy 🙂. It is common knowledge that this is the ONLY waterproofing product works 100%! It gives you the piece of mind knowing that your horse is not soaked through if you cannot get to the barn that day....yes it may cost more to waterproof blankets considering you can only do two blankets per bottle but it lasts the whole season....not to mention the resale on your blankets (should your horse grow) is higher if someone sees that they have been washed and waterproofed in Nikwax products! This product is worth every penny!!!!!

I’ve used this on 2 blankets and a sheet so far. I was skeptical that they would really be clean and waterproof but they are!

Not only was this a waste of money, it left my blankets less waterproof than before I used it. Last year I splurged and bought a new Rambo and a new Rhino. The Rambo was especially impressive in it's ability to shed water. Wanting to take good care of my new blankets I diligently followed the instructions for washing (with Rambo wash) and waterproofing with Rug Proof. I also used it on an older SmartPak blanket which I washed with Leather Therapy Blanket Wash first. That blanket soaked up so much water I had to pull out an older identical, yet untreated, blanket for that horse. Amazon directs you to the warranty on the Nikwax website, but it is nowhere to be found. We'll see if Nikwax stands behind their products.

Great for reproving yourself

Over the years I have used many re-proofers, this is one that, once used you will not go back to the others. It is easy to use and very effective and in my opinion the best. I have blankets that are 15 years old, been repaired many times and during this years heavy rains performed as well as the new blankets

The wax arrived quickly - I followed the instructions and re-proofed a turn-out rug very easily. It has kept the horse dry, though only used once so far. Very pleased!

Wish Canada had larger volume ones available for purchase at a great price but, these are not bad at all. They are exactly as described and our customers are happy with the outcome after the wash.

When you remove your blanket from the wash it is in blotches all over like school glue . I won't be using it or purchasing again.
