UPDATE: after over 2 years of use, I can say that this is perfect for most small, home-sewing needs as well as for beginners looking to learn sewing, but not if you are a professional, or even an adventurous hobbyist. The biggest con I can find so far is that it is not suitable for sewing thicker than average fabric like thick cotton or denim, or delicate fabrics like satin, because the pressure foot cannot be controlled. Aside from that, it's great, and I haven't had to change any of the factory settings so far while working on cotton, rayon and some polyester mix fabrics. Works perfectly for mending jobs with common cotton or polyester clothes. I have also been able to use this to sew decorative edges on paper journal softcovers and pages without any problems.*********************************************Comes with clear instruction manual. All accessories mentioned in description were provided.Will update review after a few months of use.Fairly small and light, portable. Comes with a light near the needle that makes it easier to see the work as we stitch. Thread cutter provided on the side is nifty. Has all the basic stitches and presser feet (general purpose, hem, zipper and button) you'd need for mending and basic dressmaking/hobby sewing. Includes a plastic darning plate that can be attached for darning as well as freehand embroidery (a darning or embroidery foot, not provided, will make the job easier). Foot pedal is easy to use, and stitch speed maxes out at a reasonable, manageable level. Cable length too short for my liking.It's perfect for beginners, comes out of the box with factory set tension settings (both upper and bobbin) that worked right away on cotton, thin silk, and thicker rayon seams. Darning and zigzag will need the tension to be slightly lower than factory setting, but the instruction manual is very clear on recommended settings for different scenarios.Currently own an old mechanical singer machine (what I will still primarily use), can concur with reviews below pointing out that service is generally poor, but product quality is amazing PROVIDED all instructions on maintenance are followed to a T.Hope this one's quality is just as good as some of their decades old models, will update review after longer use.

Stitching is easy

I have bought this for hobby sewing and small alterations that I can do at home rather running around for tailors. I found the machine ease to use. The instructions on the manual are clear.I quality of stitch is very good, and it has variety of stitches built in from which you can select, they serve most of the needs for hobby work.The bobbin changing is very easy, the mechanism provided to thread the bobbin is also easy to use, and helps stitch things faster.The quality of the build is good, and its heavy enough to stay stable on the table. The electric pedal is responsive and smooth.Initially I broke few needles and that was due to heavy clothes or wrong stitching, but they have provided some spare needles which saved my time from going to market again. In one or two instances my needle got bent, and I don't know how it happened, I had to replace the needle.I also faced some issue with threads getting stuck, and even needle getting stuck inside bobbin case, I had some hard time getting it removed.I have been using it carefully since then, and I did not face any issue.I would surely recommend anyone looking for a hobby sewing to go for this.

I purchased the Singer Promise 1408 Automatic Zig-Zag Electric Sewing Machine on 23rd April 2024, impressed by its 8 built-in stitches, 24 stitch functions, and sturdy metal frame. However, my experience has been far from satisfactory.The machine developed an issue, and I registered a service complaint on 22nd November 2024. As of 28th December 2024, there has been no contact from Singer’s customer service to address the problem. This delay and lack of response are incredibly frustrating.What’s worse is that online buyers are at a disadvantage. If this product had been purchased through a local distributor, the issue could have been resolved much faster. Local sellers often provide prompt support, which is clearly lacking in Singer’s online service process.Pros:Decent features for basic home stitching.Durable metal frame.Cons:Poor product reliability—issues surfaced within 7 months.Extremely poor online customer service—no follow-up for over a month.Better service support is available only through distributors, not online purchases.If you're considering this machine, avoid buying it online. Purchase from a local distributor who can address issues quickly. Until Singer improves its online after-sales service, this product is not worth the hassle. Very disappointed.

The machine is quite handy and easy to carry and use. My issue is with free demo. I repeatedly called their helpline for demo but no one came. I got a number to follow up but no one picked it. Finally Mr Suresh came. He was very friendly and guided me very well. He said he was called by company to give. I live in Manglore and they have no one to give demo there. Their agent is in banglore and it 8s not worth for him to come and give demo. He told a local to do it and told him that he would pay him for it. Even after 5 demo Mr Raghavendra did not pay him. He pocketed the money n kept quiet. It is wrong to hire such crooks as it will spoil their reputation. Singer should assign local people who are interested to give demo.

I don't understand how to use pico and interlock features.I have booked a demo @ singer website..Rest is working fine..

I had a mixed review regarding this. Every time my mother started to use it for stitching the strigs are always get stuck from the using the interlocking stitch and you have to repeatedly have to adjust the strings it's annoying. And after calling the techniciand repeatedly the issue remains the same.Rest is good
