Electronically sophisticated but lacking in other ways
The mouse arrived boxed together with its base, a charging cable and a brief multi-language instruction manual. There is a little slot on the underside of the mouse that holds the 2.4G receiver. The pack also includes some rather brash stickers that I will not be using. It is a technically sophisticated mouse in many ways, but perhaps overkill for the likes of myself who prefers a wireless mouse but only requires one that does its job of controlling my cursor in a smooth and reliable way. In fact, I had to look up the detail of what constitutes a gaming mouse and apparently adjustible sensitivity is the most important feature. This mouse excels in that respect with a range of 6 sensitivities from 800 to 22000 DPI.The sales information gives other parameters that they say improves its gaming function. The polling rate is 1000 MHz which I understand is typical for a gaming mouse, and it is apparently 4 speed adjustable which I am afraid is beyond my understanding and I am not clear how to change. A search on the internet suggests that too high a rate can cause lag. Interpreting the rest of the sales information, 35g acceleration for example, I will also have to leave to you! I assume it is positive or they would not have included it!Apart from its technical prowess there are 3 connection possibilities. The base acts as a fast charger for the mouse, and I guess that might what allows the mouse to be so lightweight - which it is. Apparently this helps for gaming although for me I would have preferred something a little more substantial. The base is connected to your computer by USB as can be the mouse itself, and the 2.4G receiver giving 3 connection possibilities. Incidentally I currently use a mouse that also has the same 3 ways of connecting but does not require a base to take up space on my desk. I am guessing that base may allow for the additional adjustment of sensitivity which on my current mouse I adjust with software, but maybe there is more to it than that. The mouse can be used without it however and for some the money saved by not providing it might have been desirable. Am I missing something? The mouse is comfortable to hold but doesn’t give the impression of robustness. The plastic cover felt rather filmsy to me. In use the movement is smooth and adjusting the speed of the cursor using the little button on the underside is very effective, However, you have to scroll through all 8 of the speeds which is a nuisance if you want to slow it just a little. I don’t know if this is a standard feature of adjustable gaming mice, as I mentioned, in the past I have used a mouse setup page available on my operating system to do this which I find easier. The central scrolling wheel is rather slow and I couldn’t find if it is possible to speed it up.The light function on the base for me was superfluous, but it seems to work effectively. There is a little button on the underside of the base to control it or turn it off. When the mouse is charging on the base a white light indicates it and turns off when the mouse is fully charged. The current price of this mouse is £32.99 and there is a £5 voucher. This seems quite expensive given the material quality of the mouse but might be explained by the electronic sophistication. Looking on the Amazon site, it is not an atypical price for a gaming mouse but a number of others are by known names in computer peripherals and my experience of these is that they feel far more robust, with a thicker grade of plastic, etc.I find rating this quite difficult because I am not a gamer and don’t wish to be unfair about something that I have little experience of. However you will gather from the above that I have certain concerns that are not to do with gaming requirements. I won’t be making regular use of this mouse and don’t feel that it justifies more that 3 stars.
