10G SFP+ Media Converter (Kit) with 10GBase-T Fiber Transceiver Reach 30 Meters and 10GBase-SR Fiber Module (300 m, MMF, 850nm)

I bought this as a curiosity, as I always hear disparaging things about cheap AE Media Converters. I'm glad to report that this has worked wonderfully for me for the past 3 months without ANY issue. The only real concern I had was the power adapter as it feels very cheap, but I haven't had a problem so far. I'm using FS BiDi optics in mine without issue.If you are looking for a simple SFP to RJ45 media converter and don't need anything fancy, this is a great option!

I ordered this to connect some remote cameras about 500 feet away from my main switch. My small remote switches do not have fiber capability so this seemed like a workable solution.I ran a fiber cable along with my power cable in a conduit to the remote location. I did need two termination boxes for power, POE injectors and ethernet connections. The converter worked without issue and now I have cameras and sensors 500 feet away.I know I could have used wireless bridges but this solution is much more secure and I was even able to add alarm wires attached to the termination boxes to detect tampering.I could only ask that the manufacturer make a POE version to help reduce the clutter in my termination box.

Unfortunately, the device broke after a few days - oops, it was so ineffective.

Media converters are one of things where "forgettable" is not an insult, it's high praise.This connects a camera to my network in a far location, and after I installed it, I kinda...forgot about it. It's reliable and performs well, and that's exactly what I need it to do. Can't ask for more than that.The fiber connector is via SFP, so if you need to swap with copper for diagnostics, that's an option too.

I have needed to setup a temporary switch that doesn't have all the bell and whistles on a table for a temporary event. Run fiber over to the table through the crack between the concrete slap that the put there to keep the slap from cracking in areas they don't want it to.Run tape over that area to ensure the fiber doesn't come out and then install this convertor.Set the switch I'm running this from at the IDF in switchport General and then connect this convertor to the dummy switch at the table. I have an area setup within minutes to be able to handle a quick setup that will only be up for a few days.
