A poor imitation of the Zoom G1X Four
I have multiple copies of the Zoom G1X Four, including the model without the expression pedal, and the Bass version. I've been using those for years and also got three friends to buy them, and they all like them. So when I saw this Azor Kokko that looked like a clone, I assumed it would probably be an update of the technology. And when I saw mention of the IR (impulse response) technology, I thought that was a good sign too. I also have an Azor fuzz pedal (the AP-303) that I really like, and a few other decent Azor and Kokko brand budget pedals. So basically, I was expecting this to be at least a decent clone of the Zoom https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MZPR5GP and hopefully even better. But sadly, it is inferior in every way. The Zoom is just a slightly higher cost brand new so there is absolutely no reason I can think of to get this instead. Here are a few of the let downs:No intuitive way to lower the volume. The fourth knob lowers the volume when a patch is selected, but there is no onscreen feedback for the volume change. And then when switching to the next patch, the volume jumps back up to full. The effects are limited in quantity and many of the better ones the Zoom has are entirely lacking here. I have uploaded a photo of the back of the box because when I was looking up documentation online about the effects included, I could only find the amp and cab details. The drive and amp effects are noisy and a noise gate is needed, but the noise gate option doesn't work well, nowhere near as good as the Zoom noise gate. This one either cuts off the signal or still lets too much noise through. It's a shame too, because the Azor Sliver Noise Gate mini analog pedal is one I have found use for some of my rigs. The drum patterns are okay, but very limited selection compared to what the Zoom includes. The patches aren't good. I don't judge too harshly here, because even premium lines like the Helix Stomp are often criticized for their presets. But these are especially bad.Speaking of making patches, a terrible limitation is you can only use one effect per category for a patch. For example, if you use a delay effect in a patch, then the other effects have to be something else besides delay. The zoom allows for much more creative control, with up to 5 of the same effects per patch (depending on memory usage limitation). Part of the appeal of these multi-effects pedals is the creative control that they offer, so it's not good to see them limit options like that. The form factor is similar to the Zoom but I prefer the Zoom button layout. The Zoom takes 4 aa batteries, this takes 6. Maybe that means the power lasts longer, but I don't know. I have only used it with the included power adapter, but for the reasons above, I will continue to use the Zoom instead. Sorry to Azor/Kokko, I wish i could give a positive review for this one, which I would if weren't at least a better clone since I think the Zoom is fantastic for what it is and the value of that one is amazing.
