Healthy grouping of plants!
The plants arrived nicely packaged along with their planting medium, plant pot, plant description sheet, care sheet, potting diagram, and contact information regarding any additional questions that may come up. i have planted the plants with the included material, per instructions and diagram and 3 hours later the plants have their stems holding up the fly trap portion, to me this is a quick positive response to acclimate to their new environment. Great value for the kind of plants. their size were nice and easy to work with and arrange. appearance wise they look really strong and healthy with good roots and proper hydration and condition of their stems and trap portion. the bundle of shipped plants had an appropriate amount of moisture in their container for shipping.

Gorgeous little plants, twice as many as described, arrived in vibrant health and thriving ever since.
Received six (!) lovely little flytrap plants in excellent condition. It's great that they are shipped bare-root, as it makes it easy to verify that bugs aren't traveling with them, and they stay in great shape even if the box is turned over or knocked around. Flytraps are always tricky to grow, so it's also very helpful that these came with detailed instructions. Also included were the sphagnum growing medium and an open-mesh-style pot, everything I needed except the four-inch bowl to keep underneath (for water). I started them on distilled water, and now I'm using the condensation water that drips from the outside of our air conditioner. It's been a couple of months since the plants arrived, and they're alive, growing, and catching the occasional fly in their sunny outdoor spot. Some outer traps turned black after planting, but that's normal senescence, especially after shipping, and all six plants have continued to grow more green, healthy traps. Two have even produced flower stalks, which I'll be cutting off (as the plants are rather small to be trying to support seed production), but I'm going to try planting the stalks, because I've read that a flower stalk can generate new plantlets at its base if I just stick it in the wet sphagnum moss. The plants were a hit with my son's first-grade class for show and tell, too.

Didn't work out for me :(
I read a lot of reviews where other people had positive experiences with their plant but I can't say the same with mine. I ordered these FlyTraps along with Succulents and Cactus on Amazon, all at the same time. Everything arrived at my house on the same day as well from the different companies. The plants from the non-related companies arrive already potted and ready to go, the box was labelled live plant of the non-related companies and UPS kept the boxes up right. The plants from JoelsCarnivorousPlants arrived in plastic bags with damp paper towels in the plastic bags along with the plants without any indication that I could see on the box indicating it was a live plant, could be because it was just in a plastic bag. I quickly took them out and followed the instructions to pot them. I had my distilled water ready to go like the instructions said. I waited a few days and only a few heads of the plant died which I assumed was a possibility was it traveled to sunny Arizona. After a few more days the other heads of my plant opened up ready for their yummy live meal. Flies were instantly attracted to them and started crawling all over them but never in the mouths of my plants. After a few more days of patiences eventually flies went in the little mouths and it was amazing to watch the mouths close up to eat their meal. More than 4 days passed and the mouths of the plants stayed closed. I researched online and saw that it did take days for the plants to devour their meals so I waited patiently for the plants to open back up. But instead of opening up they died. Each one that ate a fly died within days of eating. I tried clipped off the blacked heads as they appeared but the plant just kept dying until it was all gone. I'm honestly not sure what caused it to die the moment it ate the flies but for me the plant did not personally work out. Others might have different luck. It could be the flies in my state, it could be that it was going to die within a few weeks of showing up anyway because of the delivery, I honestly don't know. Another thing to note was that the moss and plants had a horrific stench which might have been why so many flies were attracted to the plant. I didn't know where to keep the plant as the smell was too much to keep in my bedroom, bathroom, or even kitchen. An awful smell could be something typical that comes along with these plants so be warned it is a possibility.

the only seller you should consider for carnivorous plants!
if you are considering buying a venus flytrap, JoelsCarnivorousPlants is the ONLY seller you should consider! my plant from joelscarnivorousplants arrived quickly and was very carefully packed - the traps are wrapped in a moist paper towel and placed in a plastic bag, then surrounded with the dry moss you will use to plant them, and potected in the net pot that everything will go in. the plants were a healthy shade of green and in perfect, undamaged condition. i received about 5 individual plants, rather than the advertised 3. in addition, the seller provides very detailed instructions for potting and caring for your plant. i did find the potting process complicated, but i also felt confident that my plant was going to have its best chance as a result. one caveat: the instructions state not to unpack your plant and expose to light until you have distilled, or reverse osmosis purified water, with no additives or dissolved solids, on hand to use in the potting process (soaking the moss, filling a bowl for the plant to sit in, etc). in my area, most stores do not carry distilled water and i went into 7 different stores over the course of the week without finding it, which meant my plant was in the plastic bag in the shipping box for over a week. when i finally had the right water, some of the traps had turned black and died, but most still looked good and now the plant is thriving. i ordered a venus flytrap from another seller, and it arrived poorly packed - the plant was badly damaged, with many of the traps crushed or already black and dead. it arrived in much worse shape than joel's plant was after being in a dark box for almost two weeks! in addition to being poorly packed/shipped, the plant from the other seller was in a terracotta pot and what most websites say is the wrong growing media.

I didn’t follow the instructions and it thrived
The instruction states to wrap the traps roots in the sphagnum included. They included a good amount and a net pot. There also a few printout pages of instructions. I YouTubed a few care videos before purchase so decided to experiment a bit. I had one in a plastic container with peat moss only, 1 in a terra cotta pot with peat moss, 1 in terra cotta with sphagnum, and one in the netted pot and sphagnum it included. I watered initially with rain water and then with bottles water. The plant in the sphagnum + net pot died within a week. This was how the seller wanted us to take care of the plant and it died! Not only did it die, it molded! I followed the instructions and this is what happened!! The other 3 survived but one died because I forgot about it. The other 2 in peat moss survived. I reported them together in a plastic pot with only peat moss. It lost all the initial traps but is growing new ones. It’s still happily alive. I don’t recommend the instructions he provided only because it didn’t work for me. I followed YouTube instructions and it thrived. I would buy more from this seller only because they’re the only sellers that sells this but I would use peat moss instead of the sphagnum.

Great plants
They all died. But it's definitely my fault. I moved to a new house that had no sunlight and they all withered. During the short time I did have them, they were thriving. The order came with not just 3 venus flytraps, but more like 5 (some of them smaller but still as healthy). It also came with a handy care guide which I enjoyed reading, and some moss and a container to plant them in. I would have like to have another planter, just because the 5 really filled up the one pot and I would have had (had they survived) needed to plant them in another container soon. The care the seller puts into these plants is evident, and if I have need to order more of these (and a sunnier house) I would not hesitate to purchase them from him again.

Fantastic Purchase
These plants have always been fascinating to me and as such I was interested in owning some (they're fun to feed). I have had little luck with growing plants in general (usually due to lack of attention) but this one I have been more diligent with. JoelsCarnivorousPlants did an excellent job of shipping this, they use the Sphagnum moss for growing as the packaging material making it safe during travel. The moss retains water and moisture extremely well. My main concern was the humidity these plants usually thrive on. I live in a very dry desert area (Las Vegas) and as such the air is very dry and arid. I figured I would need a terrarium or something similar but decided to follow the instructions that came with the plants to the letter and avoid the terrarium. It took about 2-3 days for all the traps to open when they arrived, I got lucky and got 5 small plants instead of the 3, which are also packed well. I lost a few of the traps (they turn black, expected) right off the bat but didn't worry too much since the real indicator are the "growth points" near the origin of the plant. Provided you have fresh growths don't worry too much about the dead traps as they don't last forever. Overall, the plant(s) are doing fantastic, even in the desert climate. The plant is on a window sill and gets plenty of sun light, usually 4-8 hours, I no longer feed it since it captures flies, insects, and the occasional spider on its own but they're fun to feed, just be gentle. I just transplanted all my plants into their own individual net pot to grow bigger since they were limited by space in the same pot. JoelsCarnivorousPlant messaged me as well to see how they were doing and to see if I needed any more assistance. I am very satisfied with this purchase and recommend this to anyone looking at growing Venus flytraps. Tips: If your plants start to grow well make sure to have extra Sphagnum moss on hand as well as the "net" pots Wrap the moss around the bulb, place it in the net pot, not too low. Place the net pot in a container (I am using a tupperware type container) and fill it with DISTILLED WATER to about 1/3 of the net pot's height. The roots like to stay moist but not the bulb, hence the 1/3. If you're going to feed the plant, wait about 4-7 days so that you are not over stressing the plant (due to travel, etc) and stick to smaller insects. Only clip the completely black pieces. Keep in mind that not all of the traps will close, the ones that won't are usually there for photosynthesis (the plant does NOT require live food but thrives much better on it). Hope this helps, enjoy. **Update: May 2016** I've had these Venus Fly Traps for almost a year now. I started out with 3 small plants and have over time split them to the point where I now have about 20 in a growing tray (one of those bacon grease trays until further notice). They are all clones of the original plants. On occasion the house gets rushed with flies if the door is left open but with the amount of Traps growing they do quick work of them. I just got my first flower out of them as well.

Love my Venus Fly Traps!
First, let me say that the seller is a great communicator. I contacted him prior to placing my order to inquire if the shipping charges could be combined if I ordered more than one plant. He promptly replied, explaining that the way his account is set up, it wasn't possible, but that if I ordered three or more, he would throw in an extra plant. Well, by the time I placed my order for the Venus Fly Traps, the purple pitcher plants that I was, also, looking at were sold out, so I settled on just the 3 small VFT's. As soon as my order was processed, he contacted me via email to give me a more detailed time frame on my delivery, so that my plants wouldn't be sitting in a hot mailbox for an extended period of time. Unfortunately, the USPS delivered them on Monday, rather than Saturday, as was expected, so I was a little worried about their condition when they arrived. They were packaged so well, with very detailed instructions, including an illustration to clarify the different parts of the plant, and their condition was exceptional. Joel includes more than enough moss, and truthfully, more plants than I had been anticipating. I carefully followed all of the directions, and my little plants are happily sitting on the back patio, enjoying the sunshine. I like them so much, that I have already placed another order for more Venus Fly Traps and two of the purple pitcher plants that were sold out before I placed my first order. I'm so glad that I noticed them on his storefront, since there were only six and they have already sold out again! It's very obvious why Joel has such glowing reviews. He takes his business seriously and delivers the best products and customer service possible. He has a nice bio on his website, which I found to be very impressive, and highly suggest anyone thinking about doing business with him read beforehand.
