India's Near East
A**R
Authoritative, lucid, explores a generally sidelined topic of Indian geopolitics
A great account of India’s near east policies starting from 1947. This book puts the international situations and the domestic urgencies simultaneously to lucidly explain every decision of Indian policy makers with respect to our near east, a generally ignored region in everyday Indian psyche(though not by our policymakers). Puts forward the more assertive side of Indian diplomacy and militarism that I was previously ignorant of. Gives you a sense of clutter the infantile Indian democracy was in, trying to establish a republic in the face of an insurgent communism and entrenched ethnic nationalism. A must read for foreign policy enthusiasts.

Comprehensive view of the history of the subcontinent's east, post 1947
So much of what this book informs, is not in the public view and debates. A landmark piece of work.
