Beware not a remote bell unit.
Not a remote bell system as outside bell has to be attached to the inside unit with a telephone wire. What has happened to wireless connection technology? Unit useless if you live in flats or in my case my electric gates are hundreds of yards away from the house. Had serious illness and death in family so only got round to opening box to install. No mention of telephone wire connecting the bell to inside unit. I bought a wireless bell unit for my mobile home for about a fiver! So why does this unit not use wireless technology to connect the outside bell push to the bell inside the house?

Don't bother emailing the manufacturers if there is a problem!
Worked for about a week, then simply stopped. Works as a doorbell, and you can ring into it, but it does not dial out anymore. Sent an email to the manufacturers but got no reply...... shame as the idea is great, but if it doesn't work then it's just not worth the money.

Great product.
Great product, good service, fine packaging, reasonable price and clear instructions. Easy to fit and setup. Would be nice to have a white power cable that would be easier to conceal than the black one supplied.

The worst part of the pre-terminated cables is drilling huge holes ...
The Smartbel is aimed at the DIY installer. All the leads plug in, with no wiring to connect up. The worst part of the pre-terminated cables is drilling huge holes in walls to accommodate the large connectors. If these are cut off, they are not re useable without special tooling. (They are six way RJ11 connectors) The connecting cable that goes from the bell push to the internal unit is a six way ribbon cable. This is extremely difficult to route anywhere as it is made of very hard springy plastic that is impossible to dress neatly along a wall or skirting. I had to install mini trunking to house the cable. There are two cable lengths supplied, one about 300mm and the other 5 metres. If you only need say 3 or 4 metres, you have to scrunch up the cable somewhere as it can't be cut and re-connected. In an ideal installation, the unit would be installed just inside the front door behind the bell push with a mains socket right next to the front door where only one 13mm hole would need to be drilled. The ribbon cable can only be routed in one direction as there is a large plate on the rear of one of the connectors. If you try to run the cable from the wrong end you will need holes about 25mm to allow the plug through instead of the suggested 13mm holes.I'm an electrician and found the installation very frustrating. I would have prefered to be able to terminate cables myself avoiding huge holes in brickwork and timber. With proper cabling only 5mm holes would be needed. On my unit, initial testing proved the audio from the front door very quiet. As I wanted this as an extension doorbell, this is not too big a problem for me. For the price of the unit it's not too bad. With a bit more thought to the design it could have been so much better.
