Philips Hue White Ambiance LED Smart Retrofit 5/6-inch Recessed Downlight, Bluetooth & Zigbee compatible, Warm-to-cool white light (Hue Hub Optional)

I had my condo remolded and the contractor connected the lights directly to the fan switch. The fan doesn't have a place where you can just turn on the fan or off. So when I turned on the fan, the lights are on too. There was no way that I could turn off the lights and keep the fan on by itself unless I call an electrician and a dry wall person to come out for $500 or more to do this. So, I talked to some folks and they said that if I buy the Philip's Hue and a couple of other things, than I would be good to go.This worked great! It was easy to install and no my fan can be on without the lights being on. This solved my problem and only cost a fraction of what it would cost to get an electrician out. Awesome!

I replaced all my recessed lights with these. They were easy to install and even easier to set up. The lights work with Alexa and google. The lights are very natural looking and no one can tell the difference. Great to have when your are downstairs and left upstairs lights on. I highly recommend

Love this addition to my hue lights. Highly recommend. The options of different “whites” is great for matching the room to give you unique looks. I also recommend the color changing bulbs as well. Very easy to install

Love the ability to change color temp in the walk in closet. Size of the space it went into was 7’ x 11’. One bulb wasn’t quite bright enough, so had to use two, but I don’t have to have them at full brightness necessarily. Much better than the 100W CFL they replaced.Note that these are white only. You can adjust the color temp only. If these were the color changing bulbs, they would say “Hue White and Color Ambiance”. You must use these with a hub, either a Philips Hue or a third party compatible one like the Echo Dot Plus. Also, you have to use a Hue compatible dimmer or the Hue app to control the lights. A traditional wall dimmer will not work.

I pre-ordered these lights and waited patiently (approx 3 weeks). They came in and I installed them myself. Super, super easy! You’ll need a ladder (I have 8 foot ceilings), and that’s it! Be sure to write down the serial number on the side of the light because you need that to set up your Hue app. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with this purchase. No more coffee tables simply to hold a lamp. I have 4 downlights in the living room and now I can control what area I want to light. Above the TV, yep, click (on the app), above the couch, yep, another click (on the app). Happy camper here.

My 6” and 4” white ambiance down lights arrived today (3/28/18). I just installed one of the 6” units.Note: You have to fold the three mounting legs out to fit a 6” can.I am pleased that the light attached properly to the Halo can. A previous Philips downright (not HUE) was not compatible with the Halo can.What I like: It works as advertised and is controllable via the HUE App and Siri. I was able to achieve 5000K, 4000K and 3000K output.What you MUST know before ordering/installing: NO DIMMER SWITCHES. JUST ON/OFF SWITCHES! I already knew this but people new to HUE may not.What needs improvement: I would like to be able to set the power-on default color (temperature). It looks to be about 2500K. I would like to set the default temperature to 4000K. The default color looks dated.What I do not like:1) I had to add it via serial # to the Hue app. It was not found during 3 search attempts.2) The Halo downlights have a more appealing appearance. In the photo, the Halo is on the left. The Hue is on the right. For the money, Philips should dress it up a bit. That said, how often will I look up? But still...3) Packaging: Too much. I thought I was opening up an Apple laptop from the packaging materials. These will not find a home at Best Buy near the Hue light strips and bulbs. The boxes are just too big. This product needs more of a Home Depot style packaging for fast removal to aide in a quick install.Would I recommend: Yes. Light therapy/mood enhancement via light temperature needs to be taken seriously. We love our Hue lights.What I want next: Full color spectrum version of these in 4” and 6” sizes!

This item is great, syncs easily. Install is a breeze, and works as advertised. But we received this item without a shipping box. It was shipped to us with the shipping label attached to the Philips Hue box.... that wasn't even sealed! We were lucky that we have a hallway at our house and it wasn't raining. Please fix this Amazon!

The 5” size refers to the size of the hole that the unit fits into, not the exterior of the fixture. My fixture is 6” but the hole is only 4”.
