Best invention and medium since paint invented!
OK so maybe my headline is a "little" overstated. But I love the inktense medium. It has the permanence of acrylic or oil, the ease of use and more of watercolor. The medium deserves this travel set. I haven't yet traveled anywhere with it though outside the house. I traveled from my studio area to a tv tray set beside my laptop. I work with with a 5.5 x 8.5 watercolor pad from Arteza(occasionally a smaller pad) The larger pad is 140 pound watercolor weight paper. This works perfectly with this set.The colors included in this set are very well chosen for their versatility within the useably and limitation of 12 colors. I did take a piece of the imperial white and put it in the area with the waterbrush. Perfect. I have the second set #2 on order (it is on its way)which should have a white pan included in it.If you do not like the arraignment of the colors they come out easily. This also makes it a dream to exchange colors themselves with other ink blocks to really change up your palette if you wish too. One of the best things I also like with the inktense line is you can walk away from it for minutes or months even and come back with no wasted paint, unlike working with acrylics or even oils. When you come back to work just start back where you were, but I would refresh my water supply if I left it for months before coming back! On my standard TV tray I have plenty of room to keep the watercolor pad, two containers of water and both of the travel sets. Again if I want different colors to work with it just takes seconds to to supply the kit from the 72 color set of blocks. The set looks like with the "waterbrush in place" you can put another six colors in the compartment. If you remove the waterbrush you can store another 6 pieces of the ink block colors making this a 24 set by itself. If you also order the 2nd set you can double the amount which means you could easily transport 48 colors for mobile work. I use approximately 1 inch size pieces to expand my color range from my inktense blocks inventory for the kit. The kit itself is about the size of my hand. That is one of the things I love about this set is how little space is needed to set up a work area, and how quickly I can be ready to work, pretty much anywhere anytime. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is inktense dries very quickly that fact occasionally will influence the way you progress with your project. The colors in each of the kits are Kit #1 Bright blue, burnt yellow ochre, dark plum, black, kiwi, mango, mid ultra marine, _____brown, sun yellow, poppy red, racing green, and teal green. I have found these to be a really great general set. With the addition of white. The secord set which I haven't tried or received yet contains the colors Sherbert lemon, Navy blue, French ultramarine, turquoise, sepia ink, tangerine, Ionian green, Imperial white, red oxide, scarlet, Lt olive, and fuchsia. I can hardly wait for the second set to arrive.

Vivid colors, delight to use. Recommend!
I am a long term inktense pencil fan. I found this 24 color inktense paint palette and had to have it.I used a cold pressed watercolor paper by ranger for my first test. I used a #6 and #0 brushes. When you open the palette the first time, do it slowly. The color blocks are loose and will fall out of the half pans. Take one out, put 2 or 3 drops of water in pan and put color block back in place. This will melt the block on the bottom and stick it in the pan.Unlike many watercolor pans, do not spray water to activate the paints in the pan. Simply swipe with a wet brush to pick up vibrant color! The colors are highly pigmented and creamy. The colors are rich and vibrant. They absorb quickly, dry quickly. The colors are more opaque than I expected compared to the inktense pencils which are more sheer. I the colors blended well on the plastic palette (lid) and on a ceramic plate. The colors layered well. I found you could lift off wet color to stain. These paints do not have a bloom like traditional watercolors and seems to stay put more, have less movement (flow) than traditional watercolor. The palette is a very nice variety of colors, adds a fairly opaque white and a dark inky black for toning colors or highlighting. Some of the tones are new to me as they are not in the inktense pencil line and others have new numbers, presumably these are reformulations of older colors so they could have higher light-fast rating in this set. I thoroughly enjoyed working with these paints. I'm very glad I bought them. The colors are available open stock from dick blick should a single color be needed. I bought when on sale so was a good value.Preferred result painting wet onto wet. When I first wet the paper, then added the paint it dried permanent. If I painted directly on dry paper, the color might not be permanent. Seems like after drying, those areas seemed more prone to reactivate when new wet applied, but not always. Depends on if the sizing was disturbed.

Perfectly perfect
I purchased these to go with or complement my Durwent inktense pencils. I am very pleased with the vivid colors. Something aboutbeing ink based, does seem to make the colors pop more. When dry, it’s easier to layer them with watercolor, and they clean up quite well I find myself reaching for this one quite often. I think it’s a good purchase and it’s worth the money.

Anything Derwent makes is an excellent product.
I've used Derwent art materials for years because they are quality products. The colors are correct and reliable and a little goes a long way. These last a long time.
