Great reel lapping compound
Excellent reel sharpening compound at a reasonable price. Used on a McLane GR25 after a initial lapping with 80 grit. Produces a very clean, smooth finish on the reel/bedknife. Easily cleans up with water.

Perfect!
Nice smooth finish on the blade. When you use 80 grit for badly damaged blades, finish with the 120 grit for a better result. When using only 80 grit only, the grooves in the blade are deep and when cutting it grinds the blade down much quicker. So you need to adjust or sharpen more often

Fantastic results
Very happy with this product. I've never back-lapped my reel mower before, but I was able to do a pretty fair job on the first try using this compound. So I'm assuming that experience is not critical here. And considering the cost of this service, watching a few UTube presentations and ordering this product makes good sense. Still a little confused about the grit; I ordered this 120 because I thought that 80 would be too coarse and I couldn't find the 100 middle ground. Anyway, this didn't seem to matter. Maybe you just need to use the 120 grit for a little longer. Great results in any case. One thing you'll need to consider before ordering is just how you'll go about rotating the reel counter clockwise - at about 400 RPM, according to my research. Lots of possibilities, depending on your mower make and model. I really got a kick out of the duct tape method; connect your cordless drill to the reel sprocket using lots of tape. It works! I prefer to remove the sprocket, attach a shaft coupling between the reel shaft end and a short shaft that goes into my drill chuck.

Seems to work well, but wayy wayy too much
Worked well. Washed off pretty easily. Wish I had bought only one pound though, as that would have lasted a lifetime.

Sharpens Blades, Saves Money
My neighbor and I have old McLane 7 blade reel power mowers. When nice and sharp they provide a manicured lawn appearance that no rotary mower can match. But, keeping those blades sharp for those kinds of results is mandatory. And, as anyone who's ever owned a reel mower can tell you, that's not an easy or convenient task. If you can get the mower to a shop & have it regualarly serviced with backlapping and sharpening then go for it. But, if you're like most of the rest of us reel mower owners, you can't conveniently get it to a shop for those services as frequently as you'l like to. This sharpening material lets you backlap your blades by simply "painting" on the material to the blades with a paintbrush taped to a long stick and pull the mower backwards down the street - "repainting" the blades as you go. Of course, you can put the mower on a holding device and run the blades backwards like that - if you have such a setup - which you probably don't. So, what I've described here is for those who don't and it works just fine. If you use it like I just described, be sure to hose off the sharpening material completely and spray the blades liberally with WD 40 before using the mower again. Be sure to have your blades barely touching the bed knife. When some mower shops do the backlaping or sharpening they tend to adjust the blades too close to the bed knife and they lose their sharpen quickly. Also, don't hesitate to just pull your mower - with the engine off and blades engaged, backwards every so often which helps keep the back lap in good shape after using this sharpening compound.

This is the best lapping compound money can buy!
If you reel mow, just save yourself the time of reading this and just buy it! If you’re unsure...read on.The consistency of abrasives and ease of application (being in basically a slime/gel form) make this stuff a winner. The other aspect I really liked was how easily it washed away. As we all know, any leftover abrasives will reverse any sharpening you achieved when backlapping. So being easy to rinse off is a BIG deal. The 5lbs will likely last you a lifetime so it’s a one and done purchase.
