How long will one of these blades last on average if you use it an average of once or twice a week for small projects?

Depends on the material. Copper and aluminum are soft metals. The blade is going to last a long time. Stainless steel and harden metals not as long. I use mine on all sorts of different materials and I get at least a year out of each blade.

I've cut through steel with these blades. As long as the metal on the hand guard is not thinner than 1/32", and the correct technique is used, there should be no problem.

Good cutting performance, chokes on Alu. too easily.

Starrett vs Eclipse? I think Eclipse are better; just. Starrett cuts well but chokes easily. The opposite is true for Eclipse in my experience. But overall a great performance when cutting choke inducing thin gauge aluminium.

If you are going to cut Carbon Steerer's or seat posts, make sure to order extras. Carbon is very harsh on these blades and make sure to use fast light movements on the hacksaw handle or else the blade will dull very fast if you go to slow.
