Decisions! Decisions! Which bulb do you actually chose? Here is what I reckoned...
The choice of bulb for an oven hob fan unit is so large that it takes a while to suss which will be right for your kitchen. Amazon search engines are not designed for a simple utilitarian sale so tapping in the details from your old bulb will get you only so far. The upside of this hard-shell style is that you may actually see a better product. Which is what I did and found this item. All bulbs will produce light. Obviously. But having a different colour temperature to the rest of the kitchen might sound trivial but a 'warm' (yellowish-white) over the hob in a kitchen with bright-white lighting everywhere else makes the stove area look dirty and nicotine stained. Likewise a low wattage bulb. Some people like soft lighting: more romantic. Or something. Personally, if you are entertaining in front of the hob, you have passed the stage in your relationship where the colour of the light is going to make any difference. Before you know it you'll be eating fish and chips out of newspaper. But at least I you have a bright hob light, you can still read the articles in the newspaper when both the romance and the chips have gone cold. But I digress. So: hob lights: 3000k for that nicotine look; 4000k for that unclean cottage look; 6500k for crisp clean look. Wattage: most hobs have a stated maximum, based on the old fashioned (tungsten) bulbs because they got hot. LED bulbs don't get that hot. So, at the bottom end there is a 3.5W bulb. Yeah, yeah cosy and romantic, but it does hide the blemishes on the vegetables and you save the planet; 6W is good for the cook to see what's cooking; 12W is bright certainly but not so show-soppingly dazzling that I break into an Ethel Merman number every time. I opted for this because they give a reasonable background light at night so I don't trip over the cats, and I can turn all the under-cabinet lighting off so still save the planet. The 12W bulbs are bigger than those of low wattage but fit ok. They are not labelled specifically as hob lights but the hob fan unit doesn't get hot like they would in an oven and as I use the hob very rarely it works for me. But if you have a hungry family with a dozen kids making you a slave to the stove...er...you obviously don't need my advice on lighting for romance... Thanks for reading

Very bright bulbs
Nice bright bulbs, excellent for rooms where light is not in the centre of the room or is dull with a standard 100w bulb.

Very good, but *very* bright
These are obviously brilliant lightbulbs. You need one to light up an entire room, and honestly, it's a bit much. They must be designed for the dark depths of space. Do not use if you have a light fixture designed for multiple bulbs, because they are just too bright. We had to remove all but one. Still, they last forever and one works a charm.

Intended for non-domestic use but can be used with socket converter
A long, slim style of LED lightbulb, less for decoration than about performance and supposedly resembling a head of sweetcorn, this is one of several to use a configuration where several columns of LEDs or interlocked rows as in these are arranged to produce illumination in a 360-degree all-round pattern; there is no hot-spot and the emitted light is more diffuse. They can get quite warm during extended use, probably because of their compact nature, and require a suitable housing i.e. within an open fitting and not one that is completely enclosed. The "HzSane E14 LED Corn Bulbs 12W, 100W Incandescent Bulbs Equivalent, 3000K Warm White Candelabra E14 SES Bulbs, 1200Lm, Small Edison Screw LED Light Bulbs, Non-Dimmable, Cylindrical shape, 4-Pack [Energy Class A+]" could be a useful replacement for 100-120W filament bulbs for their light output. However, as they are E14 fitting, a relevant converter will be required should you choose to use them in a standard UK B22 fitment or one using the larger E27 thread. The bulbs use a fraction of the wattage of an equivalent CFL bulb and therefore are very economical to run. The small size of the bulb, even when accompanied by an appropriate converter, will work well in most light fittings. Ideally, a reflector or diffuser shade will be needed. With CFL lightbulbs no longer considered environmentally friendly and discouraged, and higher power incandescent bulbs no longer being manufactured or legally sold, there are few real options where higher levels of illumination are required; most LED bulbs are 60W equivalents at best and many fall below that. A 'Daylight' version, initially ordered on request for the intended user who did not understand that there was a 'warm' option and suited to domestic purposes, is also available and may be ideal for use out of the home or for a few other purposes. Some similar 'corn' bulbs may be dimmable; these are not. Rated at 35,000 hours lifespan which theoretically equates to 4 years if used 24/7; lesser daily use could extend replacement time to beyond 10 years! Although intended for use within candelabra and other multi-bulb fitments, they can be used alone.

Nice bright white light, perfect for every day and very bright. Review Update : .....I bought more!
I decided to buy some white light daylight bulbs, I looked at quite a few and these seemed value for money. They arrived promptly and packaged well. They are quite small but are a lovely bright white light, perfect for every day use and are so much better then the old bulbs I had in there which were a yellow light. I haven't had the bulb in that long so can't comment on longevity. They are also energy saving bulbs, but they give out such a bright light you don't need any other light sources to see. Previously I'd have the main light and a lamp on. Update : I've since bought a packet of the B27 bulbs too, as I thought the previous bulbs were so good, and replaced in my lamps and they make them look much nicer, perfect for ambient lighting, the colours of the lampshades are more vivid than the yellow bulbs that were in them originally. Plus they're energy saving too. When it's dark the patterns reflect onto the wall which they didn't with the yellow bulbs. I've also replaced the bulb in another room with one the B22 bulbs since writing my first review. I had a friend come round and they noticed straight away the lighting difference in the room and commented on it.
