"Grainless" is not necessarily a positive
Canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a primary disease of cardiac muscle that results in a decreased ability of the heart to generate pressure to pump blood through the vascular system. ... Breeds predisposed to DCM include the Doberman Pinscher, the Great Dane, the Boxer, and the Cocker Spaniel.Grainless recipes substitute peas, chickpeas, lentils or potato for the carbs usually provided by grains. My Cocker Spaniel / Poodle mix (aka Cockapoo) was diagnosed DCM after eating a grainless diet for the past 4 or 5 years. We recently switched away from dog food and treats having peas, chickpeas, lentils or potato as primary ingredients and he is improving. If your dog is one of the above breeds, I'd double check if grainless food and/or treats is a good idea.

Great treats! New, unadvertised larger treat size. :(
We used to adore these treats for our pug. Grain-free, decent ingredients and he loves the strong smell and taste - they are one of the few treats that get his attention and he doesn't get sick of. I've been buying them from Amazon regularly for a quite a while. They have always been a very small size - excellent for training treats. This month that changed and that is when they lost 2 stars. While that may be Amazon's fault (not Merrick's), I wanted to let you folks know.We received our usual order and noticed right away that the treats are quite a bit larger - see my pictures for reference. They are now advertised as "medium sized tasty morsels" and there's some advertising for the other (new?) sizes on the back of the bag. You'll notice the differences in the package and the treats in my pictures. As of today, Amazon still has the pictures and info. for the original, older product that apparently isn't what they're sending out. It bums me out that the product changes aren't reflected here, nor did we have the opportunity to change our subscription order (which we're always waiting on arriving, rationing treats) before it was sent.Apparently the smaller size is still available - it's branded as Merrick's "Li'l Plates" dog treats. Although we will pay the same $ for less product - $5.04 for 5 oz. -vs- $5.09 for 6oz. Typical for the ripoff that often occurs with "small dog" branded products.TL ;DRIf you aren't attached to the smaller size these treats used to be and you don't mind the incorrect nutrition/product information on Amazon (as of 12/3/17), they really are fantastic grain-free treats. Your dog will probably love them.

No Longer Made In USA!
I received my order a few days ago and immediately noticed the larger size. I was ok with that. What I wasn't ok with was the fact that, on the bag, it said "Safely USA Cooked With the World's Best Ingredients". It doesn't indicate where the ingredients are sourced. I will be returning these treats and looking for a different brand.

Not for this pup!
My dog who seems to have a cast iron stomach, who can eat anything without stomach or bowel upset had a case of the raging hershey trots the day after eating these, and thinking that maybe these weren't the cause, we tried them again several days later, neither day in excess. Once again, he had bowel upset and this time decided to decorate the new rug in the living room due to his tummy being upset as well. When we grabbed the treat bag from the bin, his ears went back and he went to his bed, which is his usual hidey hole of "no, mom, I don't want a bath" or "no, mom, I didn't make that mess, I swear". Needless to say, they went in the trash, especially with that reaction as I was afraid to give them to anyone else lest they have the same issues. Also, he has eaten duck before as we have that at every Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Perfect for training IF you can find the smaller size.
These treats are great - the old smaller size was perfect for training. They are just smelly enough to be motivating but not so soft that they create a mess in your hand. The new large size is okay, but I probably won’t use them as much. It’s too much of a pain to break them up. They are also on the verge of too big for our dogs’ brain toys - they catch the sliding covers a bit. If they bring back the smaller size, I would rate these five stars. In the mean time then need to update the photos to show the accurate treat size. I actually scrolled through the flavors to find the ones with the small treat size and was disappointed to still receive the bigger ones. My dogs tried and liked the beef, chicken, and salmon flavors.

Training made easier.
New review:They changed them up. They are bigger and you get less. They were perfect before. I don't get why change other than we can give less product for the same money. (Number of treats not oz). I looked to keep a couple in the small condom pocket then I walked the dog. These bigger ones don't fit.You lose 2 stars on that one.Old review:Love these. Perfect for training.Let the dog smell it and he will be ready to go.So far we had the dog a month and a half and we taught himSit - that's easyDown - let him smell it from the sitting position and slowly lower It down. The dog will lie on the floor, then, say down, good boy, and Let him eat the treats.Paw - touch his paw and say paw and give him,a treat. It won't be long before hes initiating the contact to get the treat just remember to reinforce it repeating the words.Belly - from the down position let him smell the treat and bring it around so he stretches his neck and his body turns exposing his belly. I then said belly and scratched his belly a little and rewarded him. Each repetition I would make him expose more of his underside before he got the treat but he had the idea now.Note I am not a professional trainer and this may not work with your dog.I just know behavior conditioning takes patience, love, and some tasty treats don't hurt either.

These are Good But Not Great - Also Expensive
Our puppy likes these eats these treats but they're not her favorite. They are small kibble sized pieces good for training and rewards. Our dog is a cockapoo and for smaller breeds you can break the treats in half if you need to.We like that these treats are grain-free and gluten free. The main first ingredient is chicken and they are soft chews which is a nice change from hard treats and kibble. Once the bag is open the treat do tend to dry out a bit and get harder. Adding a piece of bread to the package keeps the treats soft and chewy.Overall these treats are good however we paid $7.26 for the first bag and then when we went to re-order the price jumped to over $14. At $7 as a variety treat I'd buy these occasionally. At $14/bag I'd pass and wouldn't recommend them.

My puppy LOVES these. Best treat to use for training.
My puppy was difficult at first but using these treats just over the past 10 days alone, there has been a remarkable change. It's astounding how quickly he fell into line knowing he would receive one of these treats if he was a good boy.I took each one and cut them in thirds. He doesn't know the difference and they go further. So impressed I have bought more of them and will continue to do so.

COMPANY DOES NOT HONOR RETURNS
I ordered 2 different type of Merrick products and I have 2 small dogs and neither of them would eat any of the products. They took one smell and walked away and my dogs love treats normally. I don't know what you put in there that made them reject them but something must be wrong. Just thought you should know as I spent a bit of monies only to have to throw out all of it.

My dog reluctantly eats them
They are not her favorite. I got a bunch of different treats to mix in with her kibble to entice her to eat it (she likes the kind that's not great for her and we're trying to get her switched but she's resistant). These are her least favorite of what we got. She likes them fine if there's nothing else, but she won't jump for joy for them. The quality seems good and the nutrition info seems fine, she's just not a big fan.
