I bought this because I was having a heck of a time getting an new inexpensive block plane properly sharpened by hand.. The kid is easy to set up and quite accurate.. I don't think I ever would've been able to sharpen this properly by hand because having the guide showed me just how badly the blade was manufactured from the factory. I never would've spent the time required to sharpen the blade, as I never would've suspected it was as bad as it was. (out of the bike. I don't think this plane would've cut hard cheese, let alone any kind of wood.). A fair bit of sharpening later, with the guide to show me that I was going in absolutely the right direction. The cheap plane is now quite decent and able to take nice curls off of hardwood with little effort. Definitely good value for the money here. I did also want to respond to another review I saw which almost made me not buy this product. One reviewer was complaining about the "chrone" coming off the roller fairly quickly. THERE iS NO CHROME! The roller is a nice heavy piece of polished stainless steel with nice smooth bearings. But due to the nature of how this product is intended to be used that polished stainless roller is going to be rolling over the sharpening stone or diamond plate that's used to sharpen the blade . Naturally, running the roller over a coarse surface intended to a abrade metal, is going to dull that factory polished surface. It has zero effect on functionality, and it's just a consequence of the way the sharpening guide is supposed to work.. Overall entirely satisfied with this purchase, and glad to have it as part of my sharpening kit.

I just sharpened all my plane irons and an old chisel with this jig on sandpaper (180, 220 then 600) on my table saw cast iron top. This sharpening jig works fantastic! Excellent quality for the price, smooth roller bearings and nice clamping arrangement - very easy to use. It is fully-stable on the roller so not really possible to crown a plane iron, but that was expected. It restored the irons and chisel to perfectly square, straight cutting edge. I did straight bevels (35, 30 and 25 degrees) on most, and tried a micro bevel on one just for fun - super easy to move the angle gauge block back a bit and a couple swipes on fine grit!

Excellent jig for use on sharpening stones or sand paper. wide roller is a plus as is set-up jig for accurate angle grinding. Would have given it a 5-star except there was a chink in the casting when it arrived - however that didn't affect its use so hassle of returning it wasn't worth the effort

Easy to use-gets the job done. The shoulders that hold the chisel in place are fairly narrow which is a good feature. Some older similar jigs require removal of shoulder material to work correctly. Fits all my chisels. I like the wide roller and the tightening knob and the screw are well machined as is the whole package. Sharpened all my chisels today with this jig. I don’t have expensive chisels, but if you flatten the back before you start sharpening you can get decent results. I also bought an inexpensive set of diamond stones and they worked well also for my needs.

This honing guide is excellent, the wide roller is a game changer if you are using diamond plates or the scary sharp sandpaper method. Chisels less than 1/4” wide are difficult to get exactly square in the jig initially from the small amount of play inherent to the eclipse style design. That being said, this is a top tier honing guide.

Don't make the mistake I made buying a cheaper one first even if it's the American made one which is quite inferior to this one unfortunately. This came with an instruction manual that I did not feel the need to bother with reading as it is quite intuitive how to use and very simple. For the price I haven't found anything better, in fact even twice the price it's hard to find anything better than this honing guide. The roller is fantastic and doesn't move side to side at all the knobs are plastic but should be plenty durable for a lifetime's worth of honing. I also quite like that it is entirely disassembleable a small Allen key and every single part of this honing guide is removed if you need to replace anything. It fit my chisels and planing blades perfectly they didn't budge at all and have perfectly square razor sharp edge. Again don't waste your time with the other ones spend a little more and buy this one.

I actually wanted to make this review b/c of my positive experience with this sharpening guide. Having sharpened enough blades in my past to know that I can't get a consistent edge by hand, or one that is not rounded over, this solves that by measuring the distance I need and locking it in. The roller is nice and wide and makes it smooth and easy and even fun depending on your stone. The only issue is that it does not lock down on short planes ... to measure 30 degrees, the short blade is moved forward so the guide is only holding the blade by the front, which means it may move when sharpening. But then again the mini block plane is may more of an emergency plane, unlike a #4 or 5. So even though its a problem I did not deduct a star b/c you should know that going in and this works so well!

Really pleased with this so far. Offers a range of angles for sharpening different blades and tools and is very easy to use. The parts feel very sturdy and well manufactured and the marking gauge and guides are well printed and easy to follow. The roller has a smooth action which makes it easy to perform consistent, repeated passes with your blades and has some nice heft to it, so it's easy to keep it on course. Price is sweet, so couldn't ask for much more really!

Das Teil kam sehr gut verpackt an und alle Einzelteile sind sehr sauber gearbeitet, eloxiert und beschriftet. Meine ersten Tests sind super gelaufen und ich hab tatsächlich endlich richtig gut scharfe Werkzeuge damit hinbekommen. Stechbeitel und Hobelklingen mit entsprechenden Diamantplatten fast auf Hochglanz winklig und gleichmäßig scharf, ein tolles Erlebnis für mich, der sich schon einige Stunden vergeblich bemüht hat. Aber mit dieser Schleifhilfe isses endlich gut, dauert aber trotzdem einige Zeit - gut Ding will Weile haben...

Tenia mis dudas por algunos comentarios negativos, pero estoy muy satisfecho. Basta fijar bien el formón o la cuchilla del cepillo y no se desliza, he afilado perfectamente formones de 1/4 hasta el de 1 1/2 pulgada y deja un filo fino, limpio, parejo: perfecto! El aditamento para poner la cuchilla a la distancia correcta es excelente.el rodillo ancho permite un excelente apoyo y mantiene nivelado lo que desees afilar.
