Really Excellent, Except...
Wonderful content, absolutely wonderful. But the tunes seem to be organized by publishing date rather than anything useful - like alphabetical (hello?) or even by album. Starts feeling surprisingly ridiculous flipping back to the contents constantly, especially with the unwieldy (though necessary) comb binding. You can't rearrange them either, because of double-sided pages crossing over to other tunes. A disappointing misstep in an otherwise golden resource. I hope the new collection coming next month (the smaller "Real Pat Metheny Book") rethinks things. And do be aware that you will not get any of his improvised solos, just loooong blocks of rests in the middle. It's sheet music for performance, not a transcription of any particular recording. Probably as it should be.

Accurate transcription of Pat's songs
As a struggling guitarist, I'm always looking for challenges to push me to the next level. Learning to play Pat's thoughtful, melodic, and sometimes complex songs is another path to achieve that goal. So far, I've determined that the chords and melodies are accurate, but I'm still learning these songs. The type is easy to read. This is a good book to have.

It's Good and I Liked it
This is really a no brainer: if you play jazz or are learning to play jazz and you are a fan of Pat's music, this is a great reference. It's well produced in every respect and defintely well worth the price. An added bonus are Pat's comments on the tunes and his thoughtful quotes regarding improvisation. Seeing that much of Pat's music in one place gives you new respect for the range, quantity and quality of his compositions. A few minor quibbles- I wish the book had been arranged alphabetically- the way it is, you have to look eveything up in the index first- no big thing but mildly annoying. Also some complex charts have been rendered as simple lead sheets making casual performances unlikely unless one is familiar with (and willing to transcribe from) the original recordings. That aside, I can't think of a reason that anyone wouldn't like this book. I should really give this 4 and a half stars for the little flaws, but since Amazon won't let me, I'll round up just because Pat writes such great tunes.Highly recommended!

Great Collection of Metheny Classics
As an avid Pat Metheny fan, I was excited to finally get the Metheny Song Book. While I haven't gone through every tune in the book, the 20-or-so I have studied so far are well laid out and easy to read. I have found editing mistakes in a couple tunes where there are either too many measures in certain sections and/or incorrect notes and chord changes written. My hope is that Pat Metheny will find some time to personally edit the music and issue an errata. Either way, it's an incredible starting point for us to look into the incredible musical mind of Pat Metheny.

Heaven on Earth
Sight-reading this book after having etched these songs into my soul over the last 15 years was like taking a serotonin bath. SNRI in book form.

Great for any Metheny fan
Great for any Metheny fan! I wish it had transcribed solos. But wasn't expecting that since it's just the lead sheets. But it's still great!

Where is Au Lait?
Great to see the "framework" of Metheny's songs (no solos) in one collection, BUT, one of my favorites is missing. I can't find Au Lait anywhere. I was excited to open the book and was really let down when I couldn't find it.

A treasure for any Pat Metheny fan
Well what to say about this amazing song book ? It’s such a joy and priviliege to have a copy. If you love Pat Metheny and play the guitar, at whatever level, it’s a must have.Plus it really helps in practising or keeping up with sight reading ... yup, best if you can read notes on the staff for this one, although all the chords are clearly indicated.I’m so grateful for Pat making this book and also for Amazon to make it available to those of us outside the US. Thanks so much !

a fantastic resource
if you love the music of Pat Matheny and Lyle Mays, perhaps play a bit of guitar/piano yourself, this book is an astonishing resource of the 'right' chords and is a fantastic companion to the albums themselves. I lost my first well thumbed copy, so bought a replacement copy. Of course the first one turned up a week after the new one arrived but I'm still happy! It's also a great way of expanding your chordal vocabulary, some of the voicings Pat uses are unusual but once you play them in context of the rest of them, they make perfect sense. Also if you look carefully, there are lots of suggestions for chord subsitution peppered through the tunes.Of course, this book takes you to a certain point in time, there have been several albums released since and I really hope there are plans to release volume 2. I know that some of the recent works are catered for in different books but I love having all of the previous ones in one place.Thouroughly recommended.

Schöne Sammlung
aber die Bindung ist empfindlich. Wer das Buch transportieren möchte, der muss schon eine extra Verpackung drum machen, damit das Buch nicht kaputt geht.
