We have several espresso tampers: made of metal, wood, and/or plastic, some with spring loading mechanisms,... None of the others feel as heavy and as solid as this Walsunte tamper… because this is made of 2 solid chunks of metal that screw together. It feels industrial, and I would have no concerns of it falling into the sink and being underwater overnight. The tamper is made with just enough clearance for a close fit for tight tamping.

I love heavy well-made tools. Come to find out, our original Breville tamper is lighter than I realized, till we got this all metal one. The 53mm diameter fits the bill for our Breville espresso machine. *Do be sure of your machine's espresso cup diameter. This is a tighter but perfect fit for our Breville. It comes in 2 pieces and the round plate ALONE for pressing is heavier than the combo plastic/light metal tamper our Breville came with. The ribbed tamping plate is solid steel (heavy) the screw-in handle is aluminum (lighter). Together the heavy weight decreases how hard I have to manually press my grinds--at least it feels that way. Finally, I don't know if it makes any functional difference, but I like that the bottom contact area of the tamper is ribbed.Added later: I have also noticed that the thickness of the tamping plate, when level with the espresso cup rim, is the perfect grinds fill, so I no longer need the Breville 'scraper' that makes sure the cup is filled perfectly. Wow, bonus!
