Great bowl! Trouble? Read this!!
This is a great bowl but mine arrived without any instructions other than an advertisement for the filters and how to install them. Initially I thought it was missing parts like the bowl and a cap that I describe later. I hope this review saves others time and frustration in case yours does not have instructions like mine. The box contains the reservoir on the top and in a false bottom I later discovered, the bowls. I almost returned mine because I thought parts were missing! The top of the reservoir contains a black plastic ring that covers the molded portion of the reservoir itself. Both pieces function as a handle to carry the filled or empty jug and as a way to lock the reservoir in place to the bowl after you refill the bottle. It also allows the top part to lay flat on the floor for refilling or screwing on the filling cap. ASSEMBLY: I have included photos of what the bottom screw on lid looked like on arrival. Note the center bottom hole is open. 1) If you do NOT plan to use the optional charcoal filters, there is a cap sitting on a post that you MUST use to cover this center hole or your reservoir will overfill. I suspect this is the reason some complain of overfilling. As there were no directions, I missed this little cap at first. See the pictures that I provided. This cap sits in a post on the fill cap that is easy to miss. 2) IF you plan to use the filters, these come with black valve that fits into the hole so you MUST put the cap on its post to have it work properly. The filter will not work unless you take this cap off so water can flow through the filter mechanism. FILLING: You cannot fill this from the top as some reviews suggested. It fills from the bottom but it has a cap that screws on the bottom to prevent spilling and leaking while you are carrying or installing the reservoir to the bowl. Water comes out of that spring loaded valve once the reservoir is locked in place. I am older but had no issues carrying the filled reservoir. Even filled, the container was not too heavy. BOWL DEPTH: Some reviews stated their bowls were not sufficiently deep. We have two larger dogs including a 105 lb German Shepherd and at least for the large size we ordered it works for either dog. The bowl is about 3-4 inches deep on the front where they drink so that is more than sufficient for most dogs. WATER FLOW/NOISE: I noticed very little noise while the water flows into the dish. You hear a faint glug but it should not wake one up or be bothersome for most. It does fill somewhat slowly when first filling the bowl from empty but my dogs had no issue getting the water they needed while drinking. Having too small a dish for your dog may cause issues I suppose. Those who report loud glugging sounds may want to check that their center hole cap is secured (if not using a filter). I have not used a filter yet so I cannot comment on sounds it may make with that installed. Sorry for the long review but I hope it solves some issues that others reported and helps those trying to figure it out if there are no instructions in the box like mine.

Excellent!
I had an electric water fountain for @6 months before it petered out and then I spent the next year searching for a replacement. I did NOT want to deal with cords, filters, etc... and this seemed to suit my needs. What a great decision to go with the PetSafe water station! It is EASY to fill, especially if you have a kitchen faucet with a pull-out attachment (or use the bathtub faucet if you have difficulty fitting it in your sink). The bottom cap screws on easily and I have never had problems with leaking or the unit dislodging from the base. The best part is that my 3 dogs (15, 50 and 70 lbs) are drinking much more water since it stays fresh even after a few days- and I am also saved from the constant filing and refiling of a water bowl. I ordered the large size for my home however I only fill it @ 3/4 full- it can get a little heavy when filled to the entire 2 1/2 gallon capacity. I then ordered a medium size a month later for my friend in South Carolina that owns 4 mini-doxies and often fosters rescues as well. She LOVES it and only needs to refill once every 2 days. The water bowl is stainless steel and I love how sturdy it is. It is also easy to clean and it's a simple matter to remove the water station, lay it on it's side and take out the bowl to clean it in the event food, hair or other particles are floating in the water. In response to the issue some reviewers have had with the "locking" procedure- it is actually quite simple. Hold the jug by the top with the lock impression (on the front of the container) facing the water bowl. Place the jug onto the back of the unit and give it a clockwise twist. Voila! Done. This unit also has the option of using filters if your water quality is poor, however I have not had to deal with this possible expense since the municipal water supply where I live is very good. Overall I thank Amazon every day for offering this up on a Goldbox special. It is probably one of the best purchases I have made online!

Must have.
Love this. Finally an opening at the bottom where I can get my hand in to clean the inside of the container! Metal dish is better for your animal to drink out of plus it keeps it cool. It’s very sturdy and easy to clean. My cats & dogs seem to all enjoy drinking from it. No problems. Water flow is good. I replaced all their water dishes with this one 👍🏼👍🏼.

Easy to assemble!
So far, it's worked good. It came quickly, was easy to wash and assemble. I've only used it a week so far (thus the 4 stars instead of 5). I'm eager to find out how long the capacity of this holder lasts. I like the stainless bowl that's easy to remove and wash. I bought for a feral cat that visits my yard - with the heat, I want to make sure it has water while we go on a trip. I didn't buy a filter for it, as I filled it with filtered water from my house. So far, I have no complaints -- just the uncontrollable crickets that jump in it and drown. I will try to update after a little more time.

Highly Recommended for Pet Owners and People into BDSM
Hey, I’m James Brains with the Brains Report, and this is my video review of the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station. There are 3 main reasons why we like the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station: 1. Clean – Our preschooler likes to play with the pet’s water. This water station reduces the amount available to him. In fact, he’s shown little interest in it. 2. Easy to Use – I didn’t even have to read the directions. Just pop and fill and replace. It’s a PFR operation. 3. Easy to Clean – Remove the stainless steel bowl and use your soap-dispensing dish scrubber to gitter done. We got this for our two cats and dog for Christmas last year. You see, we have a family tradition of getting each other water bowls. Much like Stranger in a Strange Land, we believe the sharing of water and water receptacles is a true sign of friendship and love. The pets immediately took to the water. Even the cats like doing their weird licky thing in it. We have not had any issues with rust, and we like that you can see the water level to know when to add more. Also, it’s BPA-free and dishwasher safe, though I don’t think it would fit in our dishwasher. This model improved our home décor immensely. Before, people would come over and say, “Ewww, let’s leave.” Now, they stay for hours at a time. Some visitors even take their shoes off and get comfortable! Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who has pets and doesn’t like giving them water too often. We only have to fill it about every week or so. If you don’t have pets, I really don’t know how you would get much use out of this. Maybe for some weird BDSM play? I don’t know. It’s your kink. Anyway, five stars! If you have any questions, please comment below. I’m here to help.

"Holy Grail" of pet watering stations
Love this thing! I used a similar watering station from PetSmart for years and years with a permanently snapped-together base/bowl that was impossible to clean properly. I could see the mildew building up in the nooks and crannies but there was no real way to get to it without breaking the thing in half. It also tended to dump a lot of water on the floor when I flipped the jug over, no matter what I did (I didn't bother with the filters since they got nasty so fast). This one is super easy to clean, and I like that the bowl itself is metal and not plastic since it'll be less susceptible to micro abrasions that allow gunk to grow. The jug's lid has a spring valve that keeps it from dripping when I haul it across the kitchen, and has a solid carrying handle built into the top so I'm never worried about dropping it, unlike the old one that always felt like I was about to drop it. For my guys, the jug holds enough water to last a week, maybe a week and a half. The reflective metal bowl lets me see that hair and grit start to build up after a few days, so I take the half-full jug off and rinse the bowl out in the sink. When the jug is empty, I clean the bowl with dish soap and a brush. The jug's opening is a little too small to allow for easy cleaning of the inside - my hand won't fit in without scraping, and no dish brush I own is long enough to make it all the way to the other end. Hopefully nothing starts growing in there. I guess if it does I'll just let it soak with a mild bleach solution and rinse thoroughly. My only other gripe, and it's a small one, is that my cats and dog took some time to get used to the sounds this thing makes. They are all more or less used to it now, but continue to give it suspicious glances at the soft "glop glop glop" sounds as they drink. I tried the surprisingly affordable filter units but had to take them back out. Even my 80 pound lab-pit mix turned tail and ran when the soft glops turned into very loud and aggressive "GLOP! GLOP! GLOP!" sounds (and yes, I made sure to open the proper vent plug for filter use). I get it, it's physics, but still. If your pet's only water source is one they're terrified to use, that's a big problem. With the filters removed, they don't seem to mind it nearly as much. All in all, I think this waterer is just about ideal. Oh, I forgot to mention how good it looks! The black/silver/white looks better than the old thing, and the shape of the jug gives it a little bit of a stylish artsy flair. Almost like a functional sculpture, ya know, hanging out in the corner of the kitchen, like sculptures do.

Good (but large) water station, filter NOT included
First and foremost just as a warning to those considering buying: this water station works with a filter, and there is not a single filter included with this purchase. You can find two filters on amazon for about $7, but I assumed one would come with the water station and thus waited to order them. You don't need to use a filter in this water station, but considering the water is sitting in plastic (and this product attracts many due to the metal bowl), you may want it there for $3.50. That's pretty cheap of them to not just include one, though. Aside from the filter issue, this (medium) station is huge. There is a smaller option, and if you have a cat I would recommend that one. I went with medium due to the lightning deal price being lower than the small. The size isn't a giant issue as that does mean in a sense more water for the cat, however the station as a whole is somewhat unattractive and cheap looking. The larger it is, the larger the eyesore. The cap is pointless for the water station. For the food station it comes off allowing the owner to refill easily through the top. The water station is sealed at the top (which is a good thing), however the cap is still removable for no reason whatsoever. I assume this was just a cheaper option in order to mass produce both feeders and water stations that share a bunch of parts. Now for some good points of note... This station has a removable metal bowl that the water sits in. This is very important, as some animals react to plastic and can lose fur around their mouths. My cat for example had a similar water station that was made entirely of plastic, and due to the plastic she began to lose fur around her mouth. I'm a little worried about the body of the station being plastic, however if you get a filter hopefully whatever causes the problem is filtered out. The removable bowl is also helpful for cleaning, though moreso in the food station. The mechanism to release water is also intelligently made. Some of these stations essentially just let gravity do all of the work, allowing water to flow freely from the body and into the bowl of the water station. This one has a spring mechanism that only releases water when it is pressed. When you lock the body of the station into the bowl, this mechanism is pressed down releasing water (through the filter if you put one in). This means that when you try to refill the water you don't get hit with whatever is left in the feeder, it's sealed up for the most part. Overall it's a good water feeder, though the medium is very large for a cat. There are better looking and more expensive options with flowing water that are attractive to some pets, but this certainly gets the job done.

Update12 Years Later. Very Nice Watering Station
Update 4/10/2026: I bought the large waterer in 2014. I'm still using it. It's never broken, or leaked. I've never had the spout get clogged or broken. I'm about to buy a 2nd one for the cats. It keeps a constant supply of fresh water. I just got done looking through Amazon, and to this day, there is no other waterer that compares. We have very hard water. I wash the Stainless steel base in dishwasher and it comes out just as shiny as the day I bought the waterer. I've had the waterer for 2 German Shepherd puppies back in 2014, one of which has passed on now. Now, it waters my now elderly GSD and my 9 month old GSD puppy + 4 cats. The large waterer holds 2 1/2 gallons of water. I'll probably get the medium, which holds 1 gallon for the cats, to put in a different room, so they don't have to run the "German Shepherd puppy gauntlet" to get water. I will never buy a different waterer. It's worth 10 stars. We have 2 German Shepherds and 10 cats, so we go through a lot of water (it only takes 2 days for the 2.5 gallon water to deplete). I had a Petmate 2.5 gallon watering dispenser. It was very hard to refill. I'm disabled, so trying to carry the bottle of water upside down, then dumping it into place, and trying to get it seated before it spilled all over the floor, was a "challenge" in the best of circumstances, and a disaster in a couple of circumstances. After I dropped the bottle for the bazillionth time, it finally broke open. I think that my GSD Maggie is a water dog in disguise, because she'll play in an open water bowl (which is why I used to keep the water bowl in the shower). I was on the hunt for a sturdy water dispenser. I really like this dispenser! The entire bowl area contains a removable stainless steel water dish. The top of the unit, has a sturdy carrying handle (thank goodness for small favors!), which makes it a whole lot easier to carry from the sink to the bowl, leaving one hand free should I need to balance myself. It NEVER dripped, even one drop, as I carried it to the water bowl. The bottle firmly locks into the base, so critters (who like to play in water) cannot dislodge it. A couple of things to note on PetSafe Water Station. It is taller than the most 2.5 gallon water dispensers. Even though I have a relatively high faucet on my kitchen sink, to fill the bottle, I had to aim the opening at about a 45 degree angle, across my double sink, to get the faucet over the hole. Once I got it as full as possible, I sat it upright, and topped it off with the kitchen sink sprayer. Since it has the carrying handle, I would be careful not to accidentally sit it down on the dispensing end; the spring loaded flow control valve could break.

Convenient and usefull
I got 2, one of the broke, the spiral thing went missing to one of them so it's a bit inconvenient to refill but it still works, we had ours for a few months now and it held up pretty well, it's plastic and I could not find if they sell replacements other then the filters(witch I did not try), a replacement bowl and the spiral metal thing

Would have LOVED it, but way too big, would not fit under filter tap (also bought here). Would have bought the Medium one, as nicest version water station ever, but they do not sell in UK... boo, please think about it
