Expands on the show beautifully
Tehlor Kay Mejia’s Wednesday: A Novelization of Season One is more than just a retelling of the hit Netflix series, it’s an invitation into the twisted brilliance of Wednesday Addams’ mind. For fans of the show, this novelization is a deliciously dark treat, peeling back the layers of Wednesday’s calculated exterior to reveal the relentless intellect, biting wit, and unexpected vulnerability lurking beneath. The novel excels at expanding Wednesday’s inner monologue, transforming her razor-sharp dialogue into a rich internal world of deductions, suspicions, and fiercely independent musings. Mejia captures Wednesday’s voice with chilling precision, making every observation feel like a diary entry scrawled in ink as black as her soul. Whether she’s dissecting the motives of her classmates, strategizing her next move against the monstrous mysteries of Nevermore, or grappling with the stubborn embers of human connection, the novel gives us a Wednesday who is brilliantly three-dimensional—both a predator and, at times, a lonely outcast longing to define herself on her own terms. While the Netflix show lets Jenna Ortega’s deadpan brilliance shine through action and expression, the novelization offers something equally compelling: the raw, unfiltered mechanics of Wednesday’s mind. We see how she processes the world, how her convictions solidify, and how even the smallest emotional disturbances—be it an unwanted friendship or an unsettling romantic notion—are ruthlessly analyzed. The result? A Wednesday who is not just iconic but deeply, intellectually alive. For those who crave a deeper understanding of Wednesday Addams beyond what the screen can show, this book is a must-read. It doesn’t just retell the show’s plot, it elevates it, giving us a front-row seat to the morbid symphony playing inside Wednesday’s head. Dark, delightful, and devilishly clever, Wednesday: A Novelization of Season One proves that even in literature, Wednesday remains the sharpest mind in the room.

Can't Wait For Season Two
Loved the book! It had a lot of extra scenes in it that were not in the videos, but I think those were scenes that were edited out of the shows for the sake of time. No matter, they filled out the story a little more and gave extra insight to the events. The book was very well written and the level of writing was good enough for both adults and High School students. I hope they keep the author for the novelization of season two also, which should be out next year after season two completes it's TV run.

Love The Series, Enjoyed The Book
The books is aimed at the middle school set, but it is still a fun read. My son and aunt are fans of the series, and of the Addams Family films starring Christina Ricci (available on Amazon) as well as the original series from the 1960s, also available on Amazon. This book is pretty true to the series, which we like, but offers a bit more detail about the characters. Often we will buy a movie or TV series, then later buy the book that the series was based on, or a TV Tie-In book. This is a TV Tie-in book. While we wait for Season 2, it's nice to have Season 1 in a Novel form.

well written but doesn’t vary much from the show
This book doesn’t add much to our understanding of Wedsnesday herself, but is a well-written story version of the first TV season. It may give a little more emphasis on the rivalry Wednesday feels with her mother which drives her to dislike Nevermore and so gives more nuance to her tendency to escape all things there that remind her of her parents, in her own uniquely gloomy way. Most retellings of movies and shows tend to be less than their visual inspiration, but I actually liked this book a lot. I felt it let me relive the parts of the show I like visually and reimagine the parts that I might have changed had I been director. <smile>

A Delight
I had only recently finished the show since I'm late to watch things, so the book was a pleasant surprise when I found out about it. I've only gotten about a few chapters in but I absolutely love how Wednesday inner thoughts are much more fleshed out, and it's perfectly in her voice and I'm excited to continue reading!
