best inexpensive paring knives
This is an inexpensive set of paring knives. Good steel, mad in Switzerland, these have stayed vary sharp for over a year of use. We liked them so much we bought a second set and use them as steak knives as well as for paring and food prep. The handles are plasticky and the blades are on the thinner side, but these are not survival knives, they are kitchen knives and they work very well for what they do. Not the prettiest looking so if you are into pretty kitchen utensils then Victorinox makes rosewood handled knives (or they used to) or if you are feeling brave and crafty you and cut/pry the handles off and make your own, just protect the blade (and yourself, they are VERY sharp) while you do so.

Useful set.
Economical, Sharp, and took to dishwasher with-out any problem.I bought these as a test, I was looking for a new slicing knife and liked the look of the Victorinox, but having been burned on steak knives, decided to test before I jumped, The test is a success, the pairing knives can be used for steak knives in a pinch, and the steak knife is very nice too. In fact I am thinking about another one of these sets, and putting by other recent steak knives in a bottom drawer for when they are the only alternative. My only issue with this set is the steak knife, I prefer a spear point, and could take or leave the serrations. Just a preference not a complaint. I may even by a set that matches the steak knife in this kit, I like them that much, I can happily go rounded point.

Excellent knives!
After yet another grocery-store knife broke while cutting, I decided to upgrade all my knives. Cooks Country seemed to rate Victorinox highly, review after review, so I decided on this brand. To expedite my replacement knives, I bought a couple of multi-pack Victorinox knives from Amazon. Included in one multi-pack was a single paring knife. One paring knife will never be enough, so I ordered these, thinking they'd match up with the one I had. They didn't. When these arrived, I was very surprised at how light weight they were (compared to the single Victorinox paring I had) and immediately fished the bubble wrap out of the trash, intent on returning these asap. Long story short, now I never use anything but these! These are just wonderful knives and I've since ordered another set because I use them for everything. They're remarkably sharp, firm and secure in my hand, and so easy to use on tough items like hard bricks of cheddar.

Fantastic knives; fantastic price
Back when I was ready to quit buying cheap knives, I did the research and found these Victorinox knives. I have a large set and some specialty pieces including a set of these knives. I have had them for years and a couple of strokes on the sharpener and they are good as new. I would put these knives up against any knife at any price. If you want nicer looking knives, get them with the cherry wood handles, but if you want to spend only on the blades, get these--economical, durable and fantastic--use them every day. Note--as with all knives, if you hand wash these, they will stay sharper as the blades won't be rubbing up metal against metal against other silverware in the dishwasher.

Very, very sharp, but also light weight.
Based on sharpness alone, these are definitely five-stars. I wanted a set of knives to take on our weekly beach rental trips. (The homes don't always have the best of kitchen conveniences.) On my first trip using the knives, I cut myself on three different fingers. The basic problem was the size and light-weightedness of the knives. They are relatively small and light weight. So trimming cilantro, mushrooms, celery, tomatoes, etc. was very easy; unfortunately their size allowed my fingers to be closer to the cutting blade than I realized.I will continue to take them in our "trip box", but will take the recommendations of the many experts on the Food Channel and include a full size 6-8 inch "chef's knife". As I experiment with cooking in the kitchen, I'm realizing the best all-round knife is a comfortable chef's knife as the best all-around go-to knife. These Victorinox knives are certainly a great compliment to have around though.

Great knives
I purchased a couple different sets of Victorinox knives, one for myself and one as a gift. These knives were the only ones that were shown to come in some sort of packaging which made it perfect for a gift, which was our intention The knives and packaging are exactly as shown with each knife having a sticker over the back of the blade with a UPC label/model number. They are sharp out of the box and very lightweight, perfect for those who want something that lighter with a quality blade. This set comes with 2 serrated knives as opposed to other sets which come with just 1.As there are many Victorinox knife sets for sale, I would recommend this set to someone looking for the 2 serrated knives. If your preference is for straight edged knives, I would recommend a different set (I reviewed another one I bought for myself that had 2 straight edged knives). Either way, purchasing the set is much more affordable than buying these individually.

I'm back for more
I bought this set about 5 years ago for our lake cabin. Every time I'm there using these knives, I think to myself, "Self, why don't you have these at home? You should get another set." But then I haven't ever done it. Until now! i'm back for another set and will buy a set for my daughter to take to college too. These things are sharp and feel very high quality for the price point. The handles are plastic, but the blades definitely don't feel cheap. I highly recommend them.
