Jimmy Grimble (Lewis McKenzie) is a footballer with no confidence in himself and, to make matters worse, his mum (Gina Mckee) has asked the wrong guy to move into their house, instead of the guy she really wants (Ray Winstone). His luck changes when he meets an old baglady who gives him a pair of magic football boots which restores his confidence. Soon Jimmy is scoring goals like a pro and his newfound confidence also helps his coach (Robert Carlyle) rediscover his love for the game.

A Must for Man City Fans
My family have loved this film since it first came out. It is our feel good film and cheers us up when we need it most. It's also a study of modern life and shows how things have changed (or not) in a couple of decades. Manchester United fans will probably not enjoy it so much!

' THE ONE AND ONLY JIMMY GRIMBLE '
Sometimes you come across a film which stays with you and watch over andover again ! ' There Is Only One Jimmy Grimble ' is one of those films as faras I am concerned ! The story of Jimmy and his disrupted home life and his shyness to be able tohave a relationship with the new girl at school is one which brings out the verybest of him on the School football field. So under the guidance of Eric Widdell hisgames teacher and his mum's ex boyfriend his dreams come true ! Oh and there isthe magic football boots of course which the elderly lady who lives under a dillapitedhouse on his estate gives him ! This is a movie which came out in the year 2000 and I have enjoyed many times since. Amodern Fairy Tale which tells of how Jimmy Grimble's love of Manchester City and a dreamof becoming a professional player drive him on. Despite being bullied at School. Not beingat all happy with his home life living with his mother and being unlucky in love. But whatthis proves in the end is that there is definetly ' ONLY ONE JIMMY GRIMBLE ' !I cannot recommend this football comedy film highly enough !!!!Thank YouCraig : )

Do you believe?
There's Only One Jimmy Grimble is a very simple film of whimsy and football, a tale of a young 15 year old Manchester misfit who learns some life lessons when he encounters a strange old homeless dear who gives him a pair of magical old boots. So yes, boys own fanciful stuff for sure, but it has such a warm heart, is loaded with dry Lancastrian wit, and threaded together with such an affection for the sport and teenage growing pains, that's it's impossible to dislike. The cast list is impressive, with Ray Winstone, Robert Carlyle, Gina McKee, Ben Miller and Jane Lapotaire keeping the ball up for the adults, while in the youngsters half we have Lewis McKenzie as Jimmy scoring well by being naturally uneasy in front of the camera, and Samia Smith has the required charm and feistiness to make the tricky "girlfriend" role work very well. There's good football action for the footie loving fan, with serious tension filled sequences sitting next to some truly funny ones; anyone who played for their school football team will identify with the "different" sort of teams Jimmy and co have to play against, and some of the young characterisations will definitely strike a chord with most British folk who played sport at school. The drama is well played, with director John Hay letting his actors imbue the narrative with the right amount of emotional weight, the soundtrack contains ideal poundings from bands up North and John De Boorman's cinematography is suitably bleak and beautiful at the requisite junctures. It has flaws for sure, any film fan could pick holes in this without really trying, and familiarity of the sub-genre undoubtedly stops it blooming with freshness. But why gripe? Film achieves its aims, it wants to leave you with a feel good glow and delivers on that promise. High art it's not, perfect British footie pick me? Indeed. All together now, "there's only one Jimmy Grimble, one Jimmy Grimble". 7/10

A true reflection of grass roots football
After taking over running a boys football team after the two previous incumbents were the spitting image of Ken Burley Gordonβs Father. It proved a good platform watching the film on how to nurture raw talent in boys with a love of football.
