Mountain Bike Rides to the South West

This a BRILLIANT book! It has an all-embracing general section on everything MTB and a section 'Skills' with photos and quality instruction. BUT, I bought it for the SIXTY-SIX routes. Each guide shows the route on an OS 50,000 map in colour with notes on the route, suitability, terrain, how to get there, accomodation, bike shops and food sources. If that's not enough, and it should be,, the guides have a sprinkling of tempting colour photos. The book is bound in a hard cover ring binder allowing an individual route to removed for use on the trail. When you have bought the book, you can contact the publisher for the gpx files. This book is so practical!

I like this book, loose leaf, file bound so routes can be removed an put in pvc sleeve supplied. I prefer to plot routes for my Satmap gps, which is pretty easy given that the maps are OS quality. There are plenty of optional extensions to make the routes more challenging, if you realy need to, given the terrain in the SW Counties.A good guide, glad I made the purchase

Clear concise mountain bike routes, plus lots of general information, on easy to carry loose leaf pages. It has inspired me to get out and try some of the routes on Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Quontocks, as well as, showing routes more locally that I'd not considered. Really impressed with this book, fully recommended.

I'd have to say that this is the best of the crop of mountain bike ride books. It's well presented, nice photos, well written etc, but the really important thing is that someone's actually thought about how it's going to be used. This book contains properly researched bike rides (not ones that someone's just glanced at on Google Maps!). Each ride is presented on proper OS mapping and the genius bit is that it's in a folder. You can pop each ride out and the single piece of weatherproof A4 is all you need to go out on the ride. Good coverage of the SW region- anyone would discover some new rides from it. :)
