The Water Orchid grows very slowly and can tolerate living under water continuously. When the roots are about 5 cm long, new life occurs at the ends: at least 8 new young plants! So you should never cut the roots!! Under water this plant looks rather small. It only produces up to 6 leaves. Therefore it is wise to place 3 or 4 plants in a group, so you create a small field. The plant has little demands: plenty or little light, water hardness, sand or pebble bottom, nutrition: is doesn't matter that much. It is at its best when it is not to far below the water so it can grow above the water. When there is enough space between the water surface and the lights, it will create a flower. Or 1 flower: it is called a Water Orchid. It can create several long flower stems that reach the water surface from the bottom of the aquarium. After it has flowered the plant will die. The little ones at the end of the roots will take over!
