Fiskars Gel Pen Assortment
First of all, I want to correct the product description for this set of pens. There are indeed 48 pens, but they are not evenly split up into 4 groups of 12. The actual breakdown is as follows:12 glitter9 metallic9 bright/neon9 pastel/milky6 swirl/multi-colored milky3 blackI believe they are all pretty standard sized 1.0mm ball points, which all but the most eagle-eyed of us will NOT be able to tell apart from the .7-.8mm most other gel pens are. All of them write smoothly with minimal skipping and dragging, save for the pastel and swirl types. I have a long history with gel pens - suffice it to say I've been a fan since middle school, when Pentel Milkies were all the rage, and were unfortunately no stranger to skipping and dragging even then, and now I'm in college - and it comes as no surprise that the much maligned pastel or milky ink is still a source of frustration. If I had to assign a letter grade for consistency of ink flow, it would be thus:glitter - A+metallic - A+bright - Apastel - Cswirl - Cblack - AAdditionally, the 6 color combos of the swirled pens are:Pink Cap - blue/purple/pink*Orange Cap - blue/purple/orange*Yellow Cap - yellow/green/orangeGreen Cap - yellow/green/blue*Blue Cap - yellow/pink/bluePurple Cap - purple/green/blueThe asterisk denotes those pens where the color change is immediately evident. The others may have multiple inks in the barrels, but the colors seem to blend into one disappointingly lackluster hue. (i.e. Pink cap = purple, green cap = green, purple cap = purple) Perhaps I just had a bad batch, but I've been using them for quite a few large-sized spiral drawings a la The Spiral Draw Book (Klutz) . (I bought mine secondhand and the kit was missing the mini swirl gel pens that came with it.) It took about 5 or 6 of these mandalas for the 3 pens that show color gradation to start working, so I'm hoping the other 3 duds will show soon, too. Unfortunately, they are the WORST for spiral type art due to their notorious tendency to skip, causing unsightly imperfections. It figures the coolest pens with the greatest potential - did I mention swirls write on black paper, as do the pastels - would also prove the most difficult to work with. All in all, Fiskars did a great job with this set. As for "big name" brands, none of that really matters; all of the pens are basically the same and likely produced in the same place (usually China ;p). Some of the best gel pens I've ever had were cheapies I've picked up at the dollar store: great ink flow and smooth writing are all you need. My only complaint is the with the milky gels; it seems that with all the advancements made with writing tools (i.e. waterproof pens that can write underwater, pressurized pens that are safe for airplane travel) you'd think there would be a pastel ink that shows up vibrantly on black paper without the need for retracing, writes smoothly from the jump, and doesn't give out and skip every inch or so!Oh well, a girl can dream...

My Favorite Set of Gel Pens
I am a crafter and a sewer so I know the name Friskars and the quality that comes with the name in their line of products. This particular Friskar set of gel pens is my most favorite set of pens whether it be for scrapbooking or most recently coloring.I have bought this particular set more than once. I've given this as Christmas presents, I got my own set of these pens for Christmas and I just recently bought a second set of gel pens for "backup" so I don't run out of a color. I usually color before bedtime as it is a relaxing thing to do prior to turning in. I like the more intricate coloring projects like the Johanna Basford books and currently this year's calendar. I need a pen which will give me good color results, not pool ink onto my project and most importantly have ink that does not have a strong odor. The pens in this Friskar set provides each of those points each and everytime I use one of the pens!Sometimes a gel pen has to be "tapped" to get the ink down towards the nib of the pen. I have had this experience with a pen or two in this set, but it happens usually in any make of gel pen. It's not a big issue for me. A tap and I am back on my way to working on my evening project. The ink in these pens, I have found gives good coverage in the areas one needs it and no pen in this set has pooled out ink when I went to use the pen on paper. The pen and its ink flows so that one can do the fine details of intricate projects and highlight with no worries of making a mess from pooling ink. I also like the ink that Friskars puts in their pens as there is no odor that overcomes one as they sit and color during their crafting time. Not all gel pens can claim this. No obnoxious smell, no headaches, just an enjoyable crafting time with these pens and one's project.Although I did not take any stars away, there is only one thing that as a crafter and person who colors that I think Friskars could do to make their set an even more better product is to add pens with more hues of the primary colors in all of it's ink whether pastel, neon, glitter or metallic. When you get large intricate patterns like Ms. Basford does in her books and pattern, one can get a bit challenged in how to used the same green hues over and over anew, especially when there is a lot of nature, leaves and greenery.Friskars did make a 96 count gel pen box but it is simply a double set of these pens. For the price that is being offered for this set by an individual sellar, it is cheaper just to buy 2 sets of this 48 pen set (or try to find a complementary set of pens that will offer hues to add on to this primary Friskars set).As large as the Friskars Company is, I would like to think that they could come up with a larger box of gel pens with more hues on their own giving their crafter, scrapbooker or person who likes to color a bigger variety of this great gel pens product.I use these pens on a daily basis on Ms. Basford's coloring 2016 calendar and am coming out with excellent results and colors after each monthly project has dried as a finished project!I can't tell fellow Amazon shoppers how much I enjoy working with this Friskars set of pens! I consider this set to be my primary go to set out of any additional gel pens I have or will have to complement this primary set.

Recommended and economical.
Modest investment for a good gel pen set.Are these Sakura Gelly Roll, "ice cream smooth," quality? Eh, no. But for a very modest investment, you receive 48 gel pens of good quality. Flow is fairly consistent, lots of variety (although I have no use for working with neon), and lots of great colors. I love the metallic pens and the glitter pens, some great colors, as well as the more translucent ones. Some really stunning colors that work pretty well most of the time.I bought the more expensive TekWriter set, and most of the ink seemed to me pretty much like Fiskars: there are identical colors, as though there are hidden vats of commercial gel ink bought for mass production. Seriously. But with TekWriter you get fatter pens with rubber grips -- which I don't find necessary -- and the storage configuration that you are buying with the pens. For myself, it was the set of two cases, that I find overly bulky and not worth the money.I have purchased Fiskars twice for personal use, and once as a gift, and am completely happy with them (apart from the neon). The little antique storage box that I have here at home is much more aesthetically pleasing than the overpriced and bulky TekWriter plastic cases, and the Fiskar pens perform as well if not better than TekWriter.Do they perform like Sakura Gelly Rolls. No. But that said, you do get more color variety in this, unless you are purchasing the large Sakura Gelly Roll set that is about 4-5 times the price of this set.At this price, I can invest more money in fine art supplies, or buy another book . . . .Worthwhile and recommended purchase.

In your face :)
I have just taken up colouring again after many years and I am really enjoying doing the postcards of the Enchanted Garden ..they are just the right size to finish one in an evening but are detailed and enjoyable to do. I was looking for gel pens with a difference and I am really pleased with these pens, they have a variety of finishes and are different enough to stand out from all the other pens I have. The swirl pens are lovely although sometimes they do just merge into one colour however they are still interesting enough to make me smile. I love the metallic and the glitter, the metallic especially are as smooth as silk to colour with and the neon are very nicely bright and in your face. I am going to order another set as I am sure my daughter will love them too. Brilliant value, thank you

vibrant colours are yours within this pack of beautiful Gel pens..
Fiskars 0.8mm Glitter/Neon/metallic and swirl gel pens is a great purchase for those who love to relax using colouring books or simply using art as a hobby. This great pack of 48 pens are divided into three smaller packets within a larger plastic casing. In each pack the pens are divided to what separate section the pens are connected to such as the Glitter, Neon etc. Due to the fact the Gel pens really create colours which stand out this set of pens are perfect as each of the pens create bright coloursI love how each pen produces a wonderful vibrant colour which really stand out on their own and even better when they are used all together. The glitter pens are so beautiful to use as they truly sparkle when used, I love also the metallic as the colours are so vivid and bring so much life into the picture you are colouring are whatever use you want the pens for. These pens are comfortable to hold and along with the wonderful colours they give me I am happy to recommend Fiskars pack of 48 0.8mm pens to anyone who loves to use pens which really stand out!.

BRILLIANT ALTERNATIVE TO FINELINERS
I have never used gel pens before (adult colourer) but am totally wowed. These are excellent, the flow is much nicer and easier than fineliners of good quality, and the colour range is brilliant. I have found in the past when buying colouring pens that some are good and some bad and no matter what the make, you always get the same colours. These ALL flow well, the colour range is varied and different and for anyone out there, who like me hasn't used before, buy them and be truly satisfied. Great value for money. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Some of the pens are great - the glitter ones run well
This is exactly what I expected following reviews I had read. Some of the pens are great - the glitter ones run well. However, the neon pens and mixed colour pens are not great. I found them almost unusable as the ink just stops running after a very short time (If they work at all) and they are extremely scratchy. Apart from the neon tray the rest of the pens are great so it kind of makes up for it. It increased my choice of colours so I found it worthwhile.
