These gages are only "attached" by putting them in little pockets in a plastic holder so there is a tendency to lose a shim or two. In retrospect I should have gotten the fan type but that's not the fault of the gage set.

This is a great product.I work with equipment in the beverage manufacturing industry, and it's /all/ metric. It's also often built such that places where you need to use a gage are tight, cramped, and frustrating to get at. This set is true metric - not Imperial units converted to mm (like a 0.0889mm gage...I'm sorry, what?). As another reviewer stated, it is possible to misplace individual gages as they are not connected, so putting them back immediately after using them is a must. The benefit of that non-connectedness, though, is that I find one can save time and effort by grabbing just the gage one needs, when one needs it, without fanning and searching. Also, sans the additional bulk of the fan-type sets one can get into some tighter spaces.Finally...with a package that color orange, you can't lose the damned set even if you try.
