Windsor Castle: The Official Illustrated History

I already own the Official Guide. This book compliments it by showing watercolor paintings of how some of the most spectacular rooms looked once the original interior decorating was finished. Some don’t look the same now. Where the room photos are the same, this book’s are larger- some a full page (including many historical world-class paintings). I love being able to look at the details close up.There is enough difference between the two books to make each one valuable in its own right. Together, you feel like you have experienced more and enjoyed it more than even being on the tour.

I purchased a used copy for $4.63 and couldn't be happier. The inside cover has a 3D drawing of the castle and grounds with everything identified. After the history with drawings, there is a brief description of The Gallery, Queen Mary's Doll House, and the China Museum.The State Apartments and Semi-state Rooms have full page dramatic color photos. You will wish you could buy post cards this large. A good description of the room is wonderfully supplemented with a list of the items in the room, such as paintings, furniture, porcelain, tapestries, arms and armor, sculpture, and display cases.The dining rooms, throne room, St George's Chapel-they are all here. The decorative arts and the architecture shown are worth the price of the book.

Colorful and has accurate pictures. Easy to read. At Windor thery are around 6 pounds new ($7 new).

It's a good guide...I wished that I would have purchased a copy while I was at Windsor

It's hard to imagine living in a castle now but it also must have been hard living in a castle back in the days when castles were necessary.

This is an excellent guide to Windsor Castle. It gave us a lot of information before our trip, which enhanced our visit to the castle very much. A good price too and it arrived very speedily. Thank you.
